Trochaic describes a metrical pattern made of trochees-feet that begin with a stressed syllable followed by an unstressed one. A trochaic line often sounds driving or falling in rhythm, as in HAP-py, TA-ble, or WIN-ter.
Poets use trochaic meter to create a strong, forward-moving beat that feels different from the more common iambic pattern.
