Quintet

A quintet, also called a quintain, is a stanza or short poem made up of five lines. The term describes the structure, not a specific rhyme scheme or meter, so a quintet can be written in many different ways.

Writers use quintets for brief, compact poems or as building blocks within longer poems.

Example

The rain tapped softly on the rail,
A silver thread in morning air;
The garden lifted leaf and stem,
And every puddle held a prayer,
Until the sun dissolved the veil.
