Parataxis is the placing of phrases, clauses, or images side by side with little or no explanation of how they connect. Instead of showing clear logical links with words like because, although, or therefore, a poem may simply present one thought after another and let the reader sense the relationship.
Poets use parataxis to create a direct, compressed, and sometimes urgent feeling, and to suggest links that are emotional, visual, or associative rather than strictly grammatical.
