Coda

A coda is the closing section of a poem, added to bring the piece to a clear finish after the main movement of the poem has ended. It often gathers the poem's ideas, sharpens its final meaning, or leaves the reader with a last striking image or statement. In some fixed forms, a coda can function as an added concluding stanza or envoi.

Example

The river kept speaking after dark,
its silver mouth still working at the stones;
I stood a while, then turned for home.

Behind me, the water went on,
one last line the moon could read.
