Aphorism

An aphorism is a brief, sharply worded statement that expresses a general truth, insight, or observation. In poetry, aphorisms often stand out because they sound memorable, compressed, and complete, as if a larger idea has been distilled into a few words. They may be wise, witty, or unsettling, but they aim to leave a lasting impression.

Example

We spend our lives gathering light
only to learn how quickly it fades.
