Callimachus was a native of the Greek colony of Cyrene, Libya. He was a noted poet, critic and scholar at the Library of Alexandria and enjoyed the patronage of the Egyptian – Greek Pharaohs Ptolemy II Philadelphus and Ptolemy III Euergetes.
