The Roan in the River

It was neither
a good place
nor bad
to end up.
It just was.

The roan lay amongst
glowing pebbles,
the silky water
spreading out its mane.
A grey eye,
just under,
looked up
searching for the blue sky
and the beckoning herd
and valley.
