Notes About The Poem

Thalassophile is a noun that refers to someone who loves the sea. The word is derived from the Greek word thalassa which means sea and the suffix phile which means lover (of).

Alexandrine is the most traditional way to write poetry in French. It could be considered as the French counterpart of the Japanese Haiku.

Alexandrine couplet: Rhyme scheme: (a1–a2) & (b1–b2) with natural hemistiches.

Thalassophile

Life's tides will ebb and flow as inner tension grows,
but balm of ocean’s song, it rights so many wrongs.

I used to be a great thalassophile, until I got a bit sick and so did my wife who died seven years ago. Now I am a loner but when I leave home the first thing I see is a stretch of the sea. Guess my heart is still there. A lovely poem which brings me some nostalgia.

Thank you for visiting my poem, Victor. The sea has always been a part of my life and I can't imagine anything else as soothing as the sound of the waves ...
