Listen to poem:
There will never be
A story told
That does not measure
Hope so old
As in this tree
With shading bow
As here I sit
In writing now

For in this ancient
Solid form
That buries deep
Under the norm
Of human treadmill
Feet that scurry
A wisdom lies
Below the flurry

Such gnarly skin
Yet seasoned clothes
A message tall
This tree bestows
For those with eyes
For those with ears
A whisper to dispel
Your fears

Carbon capture
Monolith
Prompts perfect style
For kin and kith
We learn our futures
Can be bright
If trust, we do
With such insight

Roots in earth
Yet highest height
Entwined in life
As nature’s rite
So let us grow
Persistently
Protecting, loving
A human tree

The beauty and majesty of trees, thank you for sharing this amazing piece, Sam. Enjoyed listening to your recital , I don't believe that I would dare to do that to my poetry. I think of one time when I answered the phone and the man asked if my mommy was home. Anyhow , outstanding images!

Dear Michelle so lovely that you came by.. thank you for your comments. I love hearing all the accents and voices on Soup. Yours will be no different, just as personal. I would encourage you to find that poem you really felt.. and just feel it while you read it without worrying about any performance aspect. Being in the moment you created is key..Rhyme is good because of the beat. Have a go x Good luck. Blessings S:) x

Dear Sam, your contemplative use of imagery and metaphor is inspiring, thought-provoking and weaves a beautiful parallel between mankind and trees, rooted in aspects of hope, growth and protection. I especially enjoyed "Such gnarly skin/Yet seasoned clothes" - a wonderful moment among many in your appreciative verse. The world shared by humans and nature is beautifully explored and shaped by your insightful pen. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan p.s. your voice over was fantastic!

Indeed, natural whispers find me and I listen, appreciate and enjoy. Like you, I'm grateful when I "sense the tree" too :) Your poem is deeply touching to me. Thank you for your amazing verse.

I wrote this while sat under a favourite tree and, perhaps, who knows, there was a whisper in the rustling leaves and the contemplation of the deep silence. I certainly sensed the tree. Maybe it too was grateful for the brief moment we shared in it's day x
