Necessity

Read about a horrendous
attack on homeless people
near where I live
Watching TV I see
images of brutality in
Yemen, Syria, and in Hong Kong and South America
Is humanity all it was cracked up to be
By the Enlightenment thinkers and dreamers?
Can poetry play a role in slowing down this litany of horrors
The answer is yes
Poetry can move hearts and minds
Bring solace to the bereaved
Sense to the foolhardy
I urge all my readers
to let poetry enter your soul
Let magic words guide your fantasies
Let hidden meanings bring joy into your life
As a member of the human race
You take joy from verse
It is a balm for our souls
It is an attempt to understand

It can be used in speeches, written in articles. Read to remember and recited to teach.

I think poets have a strong voice and it is their responsibility to share the news with softness and awareness. You do just that dear poet. Have a wonderful day, Thanks for sharing.

I agree with you, Matthew: Poetry (and prayer too) can and does make a difference... There's a line from the play 'Our Town,' I think you'd appreciate. A young lady, Julia Gibbs, asks the Narrator, "Does anyone really appreciate how wonderful life is?" The Narrator replies, "Oh, the poets and the saints maybe." Take care, Matthew! ~ Gershon
