Look What You Did To Me

The pain and outrage seemed a true conviction
But closer look gave other truth related
A glitter in the eyes betrayed the fiction
This dark event in sooth was celebrated

There is a hunger in the hearts of men
For victimhood in all its many forms
They seek to bring their suffering to our ken
And signal guilt on those whom they give scorn

For innocent effect is seen as virtue
While being cause identifies with blame
Our sins bring guilt, and deep wounds that may hurt you
While those of others pass to them the shame

Beware: they who make hay with fellow failing
They mask dark deeds with finger point and wailing

Geoffrey, Sonnet is a strange medium to some, but to you, a fast friend. Nationalism vs. Globalism, Social Progressivism vs Conservatism, Socialism or Protectionism.., the debate goes on. I know what ideologies I prefer, especially during conflict, or say, a pandemic of the current magnitude. -Richard
