Longing Life

Each day she comes to sit and read A story in herself It often makes her feel as if Her life dwells on a shelf She lived here with her parents For nigh on twenty years With everything provided Free from pain or fear But still there's something lacking A void that she can't fight It starts in with the morning Then gets stronger toward the night She tries to read away The longing in her heart But the volumes cannot stay Her desire to depart These books have shown her well many exotic places Adventures and excitement That her mind for now embraces One day she vows to leave The sanctity of home But for now, she'll read her books And sit and dream alone

This poem speaks so gently of that quiet ache for more—so beautifully captured, Jerry. I felt the stillness and longing in every stanza. The ending lingers with a bittersweet truth. Thank you for this touching piece.
