Depression

Brush strokes of emotions on my life's canvas
Always the brown of dirt, seldom the green of grass
Dark and lonely, sans any glee
Even on the brightest day, it is darkness I see

I try to search within me, for happiness to feel
To lift my heavy head, and, for life, find zeal
Try to smile and help another human stand
But it's tough to maintain balance in my mind's quicksand

The colors look drab even with festive lights
My eyes simply refuse to see happy sights
I yearn to see beyond this monochromatic scene
And feel the warmth, hitherto unseen

Friends propound theories for finding happiness
Quick fixes abound and shortcuts to success
Nothing works and I am losing my grip on life's thread
I wonder how long I can last with a heart depressed
