Broken but bold enough to bounce back

There I stood at heavens pearly gates Waiting for God to decide my fate I was still a child, though very sick Hoping my passing would be quick. Then an angel suddenly appeared Took my hand and said “not yet dear” “Hold on tight and I’ll fly you home” In a flash I was back in bed alone. Home for me was a hospital ward Where the illness had to take it’s course Though it was a long painful ordeal I got well, but the pain I had was surreal. The hurt was daily, monthly and yearly Told I was too young for hip surgery My compensating knee wore out too So one operation became two. Forty years passed before the first op Two years later, the second op I got I must have had a miracle man For both surgeries went to plan. Bless all medics who take care of us Every one is a gift from above.

Dear Beryl, if it is not fiction, I salute you for your endurance and positivity. How powerfully you have narrated your story! Yes, sometimes a miracle man comes to our aid. Your expression of gratefulness towards all the medicos who helped you survive is indeed heartwarming. Love and Regards.

Dear Valsa, this is what happened to me, at school one day I caught my hip on the sharp corner of a school desk. The bruising was terrific, I never told anyone. I had recently started going to a St. Johns class for first aid and home nursing training. In one lesson the lady taking the class kept asking me if I was alright, I said yes each time, she even took my temperature. As I was walking out at the end of the lesson, the leader told me to tell my mother to keep an eye on me. It all erupted a few days later and I was in hospital for three months. Thank you for reading and commenting. Love and regards returned… Beryl

Thank you Sara, no I don’t do marathons, I wish I could, I’m happy with what I can do though, I wouldn’t go out without a walking stick or a shopping trolly, I’d have difficulty stepping off pavements to cross the road unaided. Well done you for running in marathons when you could…. Beryl

Certainly has the ring of truth about it, Beryl, in which case I’m so pleased for you. I’ve heard how successful both surgeries can be but how painful the wait. I’ve often criticised our NHS, but when they get it right… they really get it right. See you in next years London Marathon… I’ll be watching it on TV (like hell I will). Terry

Thank you Terry, yes the wait was excruciatingly painful, but the outcome was wonderful. If I get to run in the next marathon (a miracle that’d be) please watch me on tv… Beryl

Hi Paula, it’s true, it started a few days before I left my junior school, spent all the summer school holiday in hospital, then missed the first term of senior school. The teacher watched me limp into class and never said a word, what a teacher. Thank you for reading and the good luck wishes… Beryl
