Winter's Return

I hear the gale.
Rain on its tail.
Stock up. Put 'taters in the bin.

A raucous wail.
Tree branches fail.
Winter's fury returns again.

I love the energy in this! It’s short but powerful—reminds me that even when challenges come roaring in, we can prepare, face them, and endure.

Dear Hilda, I adore the way you've captured the the return of winter's fury. Your imagery is dynamic and dramatic and your rhyme scheme and cadence carries the weight of the words with strength and beauty. Warmest wishes, my gifted poet friend.. ~Susan

Dear Hilda I love the vivid imagery in Winter's Return! The way you capture the storm's intensity with "raucous wail" and "tree branches fail" paints such a powerful picture. The rhythm and rhyme also give it a musical flow that pulls me right into the scene. Great work!

I still think 'Stock up' too when I hear winter a-coming. Pretty antiquated, I am, my children and grandchildren tell me... Their problem, I say. Keep smiling, Hilda.

Poem is antiquated. I purposely wanted it to sound like a rural log cabin many years ago before the technology takeover. I miss the simpler life

Well said; great imagery. Yes, winter is the year's last word.

Skiers rejoice. Winter is a time to rest. It causes us to appreciate Spring. Thank you for reading my poem.

Dear Hilda, I hate both Summer and Winter. But we must survive. Lovely poem, though.

When gale comes with rain in its tail, and chill accompanies, we are sure of the arrival of winter., Beautifully expressed, Hilda.
