Notes About The Poem

Inspired by inspired by the Bruce Dickinson song Darkside of Aquarius.

For contest of Robert James Liguori

Turn the Tables

Apocalyptic riders, riding hard,
pressing, pressing on us
as they come -
how long will they ride
before we all are overcome?
Why do so many
to the horsemen four succumb?
Too many, like sheep, heedless have become.

Anti-democratic and scapegoating leaders
have ruled over us for decades.
No. For centuries!
Wars and misery they bring.
Why don’t we turn the tables
and lock them up in penitentiaries?

Why imitate those liars
being money-hungry,
allowing them control
as we follow ever dumbly?

So few are those who dare step up.
Lonely is the Silver Surfer and Fantastic Four.
A shout-out to humanity -
your courage I implore!

Turn the tables. Turn the tables.
If we’d but take a stand -
think of how the world could be.
Like the Dharma -
It could be so grand.
Let us all together band,
and let Aquarius shine with peace
throughout each and every land.

As you know, I don't do the song contests (for the most part) but I see you listened and, darn, if you didn't 'get it' and pull off an exceptional poem based on it. It may be an assumption that you 'got it', but I feel safe saying so. Loved the ride from start to finish, you delivered urgency as born from righteous indignation. Way to go, Andrea. Poetry hugs ... Thanks so much. I always surprise myself how easily Roberts contests inspire me once I know a song's lyrics

Your poem is a rallying cry wrapped in cosmic grit. The Silver Surfer reference is brilliant—an emblem of solitary resistance, (an aside I once emblazoned my work gloves with "SILVER SURFER"...still have them in fact). You channel righteous fury and hope with rhythm and fire. Keep riding that wave of truth.

I paraphrase an old Scottish proverb "Oh Lord please the "giftee" gee us to see ourselves as others see us". It appears we are unable to even agree on what it is we don't agree on...Nice write Andrea, you made an old guy stop and think...TA DA...

I see the use of the word" Dharma". Actually it is a Sanskrit/Hindi word (Dharm), but in english, in all the Sanskrit/Hindi words an extra "a " is added.(I wonder why!) Dharm means to do what is right and it should be our duty to do that. Great poem.

yes, I used it because the song in this challenge used it inside the song. I had to look it up to get it!

Andrea, you have introduced a diverse set of cultural icons to explain what we really do need to do....of course peacefully!! I hope you are well. You might not want to read what I've done recently, but in my own way, I am trying to point out how we're being played so we can turn the tables. I hope you are in good spirits and send many smiles from the heart. We won't always agree, but I know you are sincere and make the best of life you can. That is a strategy I admire.

thanks, probably your meaning here is that we have different political ideals? I personally do not like Trump; however, I think the liberalism of this country has brought us closer to communism, and I think neither party has our best interests at heart. I especially hate the fear mongering that took place during covid. I want complete withdrawal from the UN and WHO, all these global entitites who ultimately will enslave us with the "great reset" I want to believe Trump will not fall for that, but sadly, I feel even he will endorse it in the end and the globalists will control us.
