Notes About The Poem

As a devout capitalist, I love how it shaped my career. However, does the top echelon need to be 10,000 times (or more) richer than most of us? When fewer people see the rewards of their labor, we get a divided society and discord like we now see in the USA. The Communist (dirty word) Manifesto warns of ruin of the contending classes and revolution. So isn't it in everyone's interest to have an appropriate degree of regulation and sharing of wealth (regulated capitalism)?

I really hate the way the very rich are able to shelter their money to avoid taxes. I don't understand how it all works. Always the rich get richer as the poor get poorer.

Yes, and that’s why we need some regulation to moderate extreme wealth accumulation and destruction of our middle class. The regime we now have will push a lot of money to the very top. Just look at who is taking charge of government and what they are doing.

Well you know me. I trust nothing the media says so I don't know lies from truth any more. It's my opinion that the elitists want a new world order and that is totally opposite my party's platform. I always equate Dems with communism . Their methods go along with the way communism is brought about.

Andrea, I hear you, but redistribution of all wealth or no redistribution at all are both extreme positions. The wish I have is for something middle of the road.

Anee-Lise, thanks for reading and commenting. There is some wisdom in the manifesto and rather than dismiss the ideas expressed, it's useful to consider it so that we don't go overboard with unadulterated and unregulated capitalism. We have a history of struggles in the USA to get decent treatment for working people. We would hate to go back to economic abuse of working people.

IE, you deserve smiles all the way around. The politicians often promise things impossible to deliver...or deliver things much worse than we ever anticipated. In the early history of this country, those holding political office were working people who only served for a short time because they needed to take care of their own farms and estates. Now we have a class of people who serve professionally who take money in return for favors.

The inspired wisdom of the Founders 248 years ago cannot be underestimated. The Constitution still works and is in place. Let's use that blueprint to re-engage our Republic. Reduce government oversight and let the free market determine our future. Freedom is not going to fail because of freedom; it will fail because of political organizations destined for power and financial suppression. November 5 is another start.

SO, there's always something to tickle our fancy. A lot has been written about making society better, and a lot of people who started with great intentions have not done so well. The men who founded the USA about 250 years ago were very afraid of despots and tried to come up with a system that would preserve their ideals. We're testing the limits of what they created. It will be an interesting few weeks.

Thanks Anaya. At least just one job at a time! All people could have a dignified life if we had a somewhat more egalitarian society. I do think people should be rewarded for hard work, but we should consider that the richest people take advantage of all the systems in place that we've all paid for. However, they'd rather pay nothing and just take. I re-read the manifesto, and it does seem to provide a warning we should heed.

Few of us realize that in the 1930's FDR may have saved Capitalism in the US by creating Social Secuity and many New-Deal programs which gave folks hope and kept millions from going hungry. He was called a communist by those who cared nothing about the suffering of fellow Americans. Excellent presentation, Robert

Robert, thanks for that background. Yes, amazing how the very wealthy hate the idea of fairness and disparage those who do. Actually, fairness is one tenet of a democracy. I'm shocked that the very rich don't understand their own self-interest lies in a fair and ordered society. They would rather try to convince part of the middle class to vote for someone with no empathy, honor, or self-control. Really incredible to watch.

What Marx and Engels thought many evil and power hungry dictators perverted. Countries labeled as communist would horrify the theorists, but Trump adores these new-age rulers. Smiles to you (even with hypocrites all around us)!!
