Like He Did

No-one paid her attention
Like he did

Found her interesting
Like he did

Listened to and understood her
Like he did

Appreciated and protected her
Liked he did

Made her laugh
Like he did

Truly knew her
Like he did

Filled her heart and soul
Like he did

Completely and unconditionally loved her
Like he did

Left her unexpectedly forever
Like he did

Left her heart shattered
Like he did

and she can smile because she had the kind of love many dream of, but still the utter sadness hurts and is recognized as not able to completely heal in this lifetime. My Dad is doing better. That’s not to say that life moves on, but in moments he can at least smile. He says he doesn’t know how he warms up at night..perhaps mom… Hugs and prayers

Powerful stuff Deb. The ‘kicker’ of the last four lines well and truly kicked. I thought you were leading me to a point whereby he was going to die and leave her bereft. Cheers - Gary

Aah…he left her because he died..not because he walked out on her??! My massive misreading of it. (Not the first time I’ve done that with a poem) Apologies. Cheers - Gary
