Notes About The Poem

Anyone who does not see the vanity of the world is very vain himself. So who does not see it, apart from young people whose lives are all noise, diversions, and thoughts for the future?  But take away their diversion and you will see them bored to extinction. Then they feel their nullity without recognizing it, for nothing could be more wretched than to be intolerably depressed as soon as one is reduced to introspection with no means of diversion —Blaise Pascal, Pensées

"The vanity of human wishes"

Jade Stone's :::Vanity:::

Let he who is without vanity cast the first insult Vain to me smacks of superficialities which in the long run prove fragile and meaningless You can be proud of your accomplishments without worries of being vain Lose your hair, lose your teeth, lose your looks, lose your vanity Fashion statements Youth Dress-up make-up Forsooth A little vanity never hurt anybody Until it becomes the substance of your life Uncouth Raison d'être It’s not necessarily a negative asset
conceit conceded vain narcissism self-love self-admiration self-regard self-absorption... ...Is self-love really considered vanity?

Raison d'être should go deeper than vanities fragile façade. Once again you've proved yourself sagacious. Best of luck, Robert

I would like to say that no one is better than anyone else because of their talents or achievements, they shine for their moral and decent traits, the only traits that should be valued, regardless of your natural gifts and a reason for being alive! Love that. Ty

Dear Anaya, so refreshingly honest and wise! You’ve captured something so true about our tangled feelings around self-love, pride and what it means to be “vain.” I love how you peel back the layers to such things as fashion, youth, making yourself up, and yes, a little vanity and there’s nothing wrong with that, as long as it doesn’t become your whole world. I Love Your Poem, I guess my vanity is showing. Blessings, My Dear Anaya, Daniel

I can kind of see what you're saying. Vanity to me seems like you're proud joy about nothing. Maybe. Interesting, Anaya.

Thin lines everywhere in life Anaya, especially between confidence and cockiness, some even have a self love of self deprecation, I see you’re watching the picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, who once stated to the US customs, the only thing he had to declare was his genius, even the truth can appear conceited; food for thought in this well thought out piece, cheers David

Great fact, ty for that. "The greatest feeling in the world is to do a good deed anonymously and then hear everyone talking about it" i like his dry humor. I just finished the movie 1 hr and 37 min. The soul is a terrible reality it can be bought, sold, and corrupted. The ending quite apt--his corrupted soul finally appeared on his face. I couldn't help but notice the homosexual overtones, and humor "people who disappear are always seen in San Francisco, It must be a delightful place"...lol Cheers

Nice commentary on vanity. This is the Devil's world and it reflects his haughtiness and vanity. All of us are impacted to some degree or another and have to fight the tendency. Creative poem Anaya

TYVM, Tommy! A little vanity like a little spice can liven things up for a bit, however too much spice can ruin the meal. So there you have it Cheerio, my friend~ Sorry I'm watching the Oscar Wilde play "The Picture of Dorian Gray"..my British outpourings are getting the better of me, Tata!
