Hurts So Good

She is deliciously unhappy.
Listening to heartbreak songs in minor keys, the melodies seem to flick her heart…flick, flick…Like the 4th grade bully who sneaks up behind everyone to flick an ear, thinking causing jolts of pain is the funniest thing since The Three Stooges.
Yea, that's it exactly! Heartbreak is a big, immature bully who loves to humiliate and hurt.
She's reveling in it. Dipping it into a pile of ketchup and eating that up! Adding bubble bath and drowning in it.
Oh the beautiful ache! She has sent invitations for her best friends to come over... Come! You're officially invited to my pity party! We will eat tubs of cookie dough ice cream straight from the carton, listen to sad love lost songs, and then watch romantic love stories with a box of tissues in one hand and a bag of popcorn in the other.
Food seems to go so well with a broken heart. Creating a void like the cracks in asphalt that feel so empty, needing to be filled with something, anything. And those patched places on a highway just look so ugly.
What fills the void best? Food we associate with comfort and stand in for care…even love. Casseroles with lots of melty cheese and carbohydrates. Desserts that always taste better straight from the source, rather than a plate or bowl. Sprinkle with salty tears and whahla! Kiss your fingertips good!

Thanks! <3 I'm pretty eclectic cause I like all of those too! Especially John Denver and Allison Krause... love her and Emmylou Harris. But I also still love to listen to Aerosmith! My favorite Christian singers right now are Brandon Lake and Phil Whitcome. You have a wide range of love for music! Good taste!

I'm surprised this gem hasn't gotten any attention yet. Food as solace. Universal theme. And the bad for your heart treats seem to soothe the best lol. As for me, when I'm upset I don't want to eat. I have a weak stomach ugh! Now I need to listen to Oh Darlin. Not familiar

Oh boy so many. I love Get Together by Youngbloods. More than a feeling and Amanda by Boston. Lady and Come sail away by Styx. Keep on loving you and Riding the storm out by REO. Almost anything by John Denver. Ditto the Carpenters. On the country side I like Colin Raye, Garth Brooks early stuff, John Michael Montgomery, Allison Krause. Gosh, I could go on... When I was a teen I was into the heavier stuff. Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, Rush, BOC, Aerosmith etc. But most of it I gave up after becoming a Christian. My fave albums back then were Master of Reality by BS and Demons and Wizards by UH lol

Seriously?! Wow... just goes to show how individual we ask are regarding art and music! I feel the arpegio (spelling?) ... the "screaming"parts hit those emotional buttons! Ty for weighing in! Xo

I didn't like it. I don't like the screaming part. But I get the sentiment. I wouldn't worry about the haiku too much, mine are usually haiku/senryu combos ;)

I hope i didn't completely yuk up your haibun form lol...I know Haiku is supposed to be about nature. Maybe this is human nature? Idk. You've not heard oh Darlin?! Or probably you have and just didn't realize. Lmk what you think! There are a ton of covers that do the song justice...Elle King for one. Ty for comments! Xo
