Beneath a Picasso Moon

When love has been forsaken, gone awry
you would be wise and clever not to try
opening your eyes in fear that you may see
Pablo's painted sun as though a volcanic cyclops
Vermillion lava flowing in serpentine rivers of tears
Your own, sure to spill, voice screaming aloud
throat burning with doused impassioned flames
     — but no one hears you

In pitch of night, keep your eyes closed tight
or you will be caught up with nerves tightly fraught
in deep throes of fright to witness a Picasso moon
Strewn upon its delph surface lies a lopsided grin
Your eyes will blink out of sync and make you think
you've had too much from the worm's bottle to drink
     — but no one sees you

Keep your eyes shut for it will make you ill to see
abstract eyes staring back at you, without inhibitions
Each one created with brash and boldly brushed paint
Hues chosen by the master, not on a starry starry night
No, it is not the human artist of whom I now write,
anyone who has been slapped by the cruel hand of Fate
      — but no one cares about you

Lin, this poem takes me back to days of rejection as a young man and how painful it was. The anxiety and lack of acceptance that some feel can affect how our eyes perceive, and it may scare the heck out of us. The despondency of unfulfilled love for those who can fall deeply and seek it desperately sets one up for this type of fright. I love how you describe these feelings. I never thought of Picasso as scary before, but I see how his pictures could disturb. Sending you smiles.

Rejection at any age is painful. I describe emotions the way I feel them. How else could I possibly write without it feeling forced or out of sync? What we see in a painting one day could be something entirely different the next. I look at some of my own and think, "I have to redo this." Thanks for the smiles.

Your delicious write is a haunting tapestry of surreal imagery and emotional intensity. Your exploration of the torment of love lost and the psychological descent that follows is a personal favorite of mine. I’d love to delve into a love loss together some time. How you connected the harsh, distorted truths of pain to Picasso sun or the twisted reflection of a moon painted by madness.. is a warning worth heading. Your pen captures the chaos within a soul abandoned, unseen, and unheard—where art and agony blur, and no one notices the quiet unraveling of the heart. Perfection that demands applause!

Thank you for your very perceptive sentiments on this one, LM. If you're asking if I would like to write with you, my answer would be, "Yes, and it would be an honor." I connect with your phrase, 'where art and agony blur.' And I'm sure you don't mean in the abstract sense. This is the depth of a surreal life at its lowest point.

Whoa, you must be tired of my enthusiastic comments on your poems lol dear linnersz, im a fan of picasso and this really is beyond impeccable! I love the way youv woven words and also the title as well as how youv written so many lines like "Pablo's painted sun as though a volcanic cyclops Vermillion lava flowing in serpentine rivers of tears Your own, sure to spill, voice screaming aloud" i must point out how seamless your alliterations are , so subtle and also your choice of words here truly artistic! "No, it is not the human artist of whom I now write, anyone who has been slapped by the cruel hand of Fate — but no one cares about you" made me think of all the deceit too we see in this world not just in the realm of poetry or art but otherwise too! A powerful poem worthy of a read more than once! Sending you light

Ink, I'll never tire of reading your 'enthusiastic' comments to anything I write. Your remarks in review are often more fun for me to read than what I've written. I used 'vermillion' for Danny, and Picasso for you. The sun and moon, I threw in just cuz I love writing about those two celestial bodies. I always think of them as lovers who cannot touch, but this time I'm blaming their misery on Fate. Thanks a bunch for your ever-present light.
