Notes About The Poem

For Nette Onclaud's "What Happened After" Poetry contest/ July 19, 2025

Psychology and woman mental health and weather dependent concept. Multiple exposure clouds and sun on female head silhouette.

After the Yearning

She spent so much of her time
in her mind wildly churning
fantasy with deep yearning
which she spun like useless twine,
then grew old, never learning
that her dreams, like clouds, had dimmed
joy with which life might have brimmed.

I wonder if this is true for all of us on some level. Missing some of the joy in life for wishing for the grass that's greener? Very thought provoking! Congratulations again Andrea! I wish I could begrudge you the win but you're just that good! :) xo

thanks so much. I love Nette's themes and how her forms are short. I love your current contest too and will have an entry for you. I really believe some people live in this yearning way. Most people learn to accept their lot in life though!

You went deep but I didn't weep. I did, however, enjoy. Love, CayCay

I think, with age, it happens to everything we do, say, feel -- very difficult to keep enthusiasm when sensing the body declining, getting read for spirit to transition. Old age sucks.

Nice one, Andrea. If for a contest, it reads like a good contender to me. I think I have seen some like this one on other's page so it must be a contest. Some people do exactly that, stay involved with self and their life is wasted never reaching its full potential. Sara K

This is hauntingly beautiful, Andrea. The imagery is delicate yet powerful—dreams spun like “useless twine” carries such quiet tragedy. A poignant reflection on lost time and unrealized joy. Stunningly crafted.
