A Milton Creek Update

There's been a heck of a lot goin' on in and around Milton Creek.
Folks are ridin' in from far away. I fear trouble some might seek.
There's been big gold nuggets found not too far away in a stream,
so, lots of people movin' out West with a get rich quick scheme.

A new wing's being built to house the crowd at Lin's Aces Hotel.
A friend of hers, Constance from Canada, is visiting for a spell
with her kitty, Bella. It so happens that we're in need of a vet!
Hope Constance will stay. Her healin' skills would be an asset.

Cattle ranchers will sure be glad to hear about having a doc ~
A woman who lives in town and knows how to treat their stock.
Anne-Lise and Caren are gonna be a lot busier in the comin' days
helpin' at Aces. Their work's deserving of praise... and a raise!

Mayor Tom's been away on business, somewhere back East.
He's lookin' forward to bein' home and havin' Tania's feast
of Whiskey Whoopie Pies at Kitchin's Kitchin where she bakes.
Old one closed because the owners used recipes that were fakes.

Brandy Brownies is a town favorite, and Sheriff Mark's too.
It's Tania's original creation and other sweets are on the menu.
Speaking of the Sheriff, I heard he been writing once again.
He's got time since he took a bullet to his leg, but on the mend.

Sheriff Koplin's healing up after having a shootout last week.
Deputy Terry and Ranger David locked 'em up in Milton Creek,
and they'll be on trial soon as Judge Horne gets the stage to town.
Court Deputies, Mike and Duke said the scallywags are lowdown.

I suspect with all the miners swarming in and there abouts,
we'll have to keep a sharp lookout for thieves and no accounts.
There'll be shootin' and killin' over claim jumpers movin' in,
those no good, wily ones who are wolves wearin' sheepskin.

We might need to hire more deputies to keep law and order.
In fact, I'm sure we'll have an urgent need to protect our border.
No riff raff will be messin' up the peace we work hard to keep,
or they'll be in a heap of trouble; I'm talkin' more than knee deep.

I just found out we're going to have a newspaper in town soon.
All I know is that Jerry will be the editor and writes a mean tune.
I wonder where he'll set up shop and how much room he'll need.
With all that's goin' on, there'll be lots of news for us to read.

Jan knows her saloon business will be boomin' left and right,
and ordered nuff whiskey so it'll be flowin' at the Manx each night.
Deb's gonna have a lot of rowdy men to keep under control,
so, she might need a bouncer or two at our beloved watering hole.

Until there's more news to tell, I'll be busy readyin' the Aces
for an onslaught of folks who wear buckskin but not fancy laces.
You'd be welcome to visit us but a warning: Don't be thinkin'
you can wreak havoc on us in Milton Creek. By the way, I'm Lin.

*Mayor Tom Cunningham gave me permission to use his original idea of creating Soup Creek, now known as Milton Creek in the writing of this update.

Lin, this is really wonderful. You have captured Tom's style in a delightful way and also have many interesting comments about the town. You have me smiling and laughing, which is a very good thing indeed. And yes, we're ready for any trouble. It certainly rears its ugly head from time to time. I like the line about the bakery closing. Too funny!! Smiles!!

Tom certainly set a high standard and if I come close, it makes me smile. Glad you're in town!

Glad to see this Creek update, Lin. I sometimes contemplate a few lines about Milton Creek… but I’d have everyone in the wrong jobs… I find myself wondering if you have a written list of who is/does what. Enjoyed ;-)

Mark, how could I, or anyone write a saga of Milton Creek and NOT include you? Heal that gunshot in your leg and get back to doing your duty of keeping our town safe from varmints.

The mayor has a lot going on these days... I hear a railroad might be heading this way out of St. Louis. I hope those tracks won't be laying down too close to the Creek, bringing in all the usual suspicious confrontational kind. You know the type that always think they've a right to everything and cause disruption.

Lin, wonderful story, I am sure Tom is very proud, thanks for the welcome, me and Bella think we will make Milton Creek home, I need to set up my vet practice somewhere, hopefully a place with a barn for the critters, and a clinic for the smaller pets. A FAV Blessings Constance

I love this wonderful "Milton Creek" write/story. I have told Mayor Tom, he should turn into a book. Can I order a box of the Whiskey Whoopie Pies from Kitchin's Kitchin??? Hahaha!!! I would love to live in a place like this before all the  technology. Lin, you did a great job on writing this new story. Have a fun day/weekend writing away..........
