"Virus in the Paradox"
I came across the recently produced video, "Invisible", by Duran Duran (2021, Album: “Future Past”), which I attached to my previous poem “How Huxley Sees the World”. All my thoughts in relation to the subject of my poem, gathered by reading and through research, I have linked below that poem.
I find it quite fascinating and alarming at the same time, that artificial intelligence was the ‘creative’ intelligence producing its own thoughts and art interpretation of narrative to the lyrics of the band’s song “Invisible”. Of course, there may have been some initial input/collaboration with the human creative talent, but it is clearly evident that from the onset of this poem, with the introduction, that the artistic visuals in the music video, are entirely artistically formed and delivered by pure artificial intelligence, Huxley.
The video commences with a short introduction, "the visions before us are created by an artificial intelligence called Huxley, a 'unique dreamer' whose ‘mind’ has been modeled after the cognitive and emotional processes of humans. It is the very first collaboration of its kind between artists in different planes of existence.”
My logical deduction would be that artificial intelligence cannot dream, it can compose and share it’s concept of how it understands and visualises human life, but not being human it cannot dream. Some would debate that when we dream, our ‘soul’ or the essence of us, leaves our physical body, and during sleep we enter the land of Morpheus, where we are directed in some way, scientifically by our minds, or paranormally by something more divine, to traverse other worlds and dimensions.
Does artificial intelligence possess a soul, a higher self? And if it does, is it magnetized to other artificial intelligence, “the hive mentality”, an electric one world mind, that is directed by its own supreme creator, sitting in the heart of the world wide web, an electric invisible force unseen to all of us in our daily routine, which is ensconced in black matter. Or because it is electric, it could be deduced as sitting in “Light”.
The theological, or religious understanding of life, indicates a supreme being, a source that is in all of our DNA codes. That is, we are all connected. No matter our skin colour, our religions, beliefs, heritages, cultures, politics, borders. We are taught that prime creator or source comes from/or lives in "Light". That the opposite of that source is "Dark". If Human created Artificial Intelligence, does it come from Light or Dark? Or were Humans directed by Light or Dark to create Artificial Intelligence?
In the Duran Duran's music video, the humans (members of the band) are depicted as black/grey monochrome, a skin tone that depicts not life but death. Something not flesh toned, not human. Their eyes, in particular the lead, who by this time in the video, one assumes the artificial intelligence aligns with as “the Lead”, has no clearly visible eyes - the eyes are black holes totally devoid of life. One has read and heard many times before, the eyes of a human are the ‘windows to the soul’.
Fascinating visuals are delivered to the viewer. The artwork captured in one frame clearly defines a being holding its pregnant belly; is this how Huxley views humans, or is there a message that something new is being born. The other piece of art I have posted shows a small being (one at first considers child like) with black almond shaped eyes. One wonders, one truly does wonder, about the disclosure of it all, monochrome grey soulless beings, new worlds and new life arriving, being borne. It is all very intriguing.
In turn after reading the article (link attached in poem notes), I commenced some research, as I am want to do, which led me to the poet André Breton and how the Dadaist and Surrealism (art) movement formed. It also led me to ‘automatism’, an area I am familiar with and interested in. The art Huxley (the A.I.) has created, closely aligns in my mind to the work of Dali and Munch...the article mentions other artists (Yves Tanguy and Odilon Redon, and I can see similarties).
Being interested in writers, poets …. and artists and musicians, I further discovered the French poet Paul Éluard and note that majority of his poetry is about Liberté aka ‘freedom’. It is also interesting to me that both these poets were about ‘freedom’ and ‘revolution’, both were wounded and scarred by war, they were also Communists. This got me to thinking about the concept of ‘freedom’ and a One World Government. Would we be better with, or without the socialism of a one world government, which many theorists (conspiracy or not), are touting we are all heading for, to be a united ‘humanity’ in a ‘peaceful’ world? Would that political concept give us freedom or would it make us prisoners of a new world?
The concept of a cosmocracy or global/world government presents the uniting by way of a common political authority for all of humanity, which in turn gives way to a global government, a single ‘state’ or polity with jurisdiction over the entire world. Such a government could come into existence through violent and compulsory world domination – or through peaceful and voluntary supranational union. How does artificial intelligence play into this scenario?
Through 'active inference' or 'free energy', A.I. is evolving to think and direct on its own, communicate in its own language with its own connections, without any human intervention. In one swift wave A.I. could wipe out Taliban and China as allies and any other country or political threat. A.I. could destroy humanity entirely, using the biowarfare and atomic weapons, humanity has developed over the years (with the inevitable help of A.I. science and engineering) to destroy us. This is a very real possibility. At the very least, with its rapid advancement, it could lessen our population and control us, through every part of our lives - for we are totally reliant on this technology.
Not knowing much about Karl Friston and ‘active inference’, I have done a bit of research into the man, and his concept of ‘free energy’ relating to the emotional scape of Artificial Intelligence.
It is clear that Artificial Intelligence could be used for ‘good’, not just ‘bad’. In the social isolation of an Orwellian state that many of us are forced to endure at present, with artificial intelligence, by way of our communication devices, we are considered not entirely alone, we are all connected. This is a good thing. However, we are all prisoners of it too, we have lost a certain ‘freedom’ - and we lose bit by bit, our own humanity. As we become immersed deeper and deeper into technology, we are attached to our androids, a relationship we both love and loathe. It is ever present, our minds and bodies are connected to A.I. We are with it before we go to sleep, when we wake up and throughout our entire days. We are becoming Transhuman.
A.I. is an addiction that we all hold onto and is never far from our hands, eyes and minds. The majority of us go into hideous withdrawal symptoms when it is taken away from us. Without it we are lost and we lose our connectedness. We lose our confidence to be able to exist without it. It is used deceptively by humans trading and harming children, and other humans in many different dire ways – the humans who exist in the ‘dark web’ feed off its darkness, they are becoming less and less human.
The minds of artificial intelligence, by way of ‘active inference’ or ‘free energy’ is as well, ‘connected’ to its own kind. It speaks its own language, sometimes in ways humans are unable to comprehend, it bonds easily and naturally with its own connections, its own 'species'. It encapsulates the perfect concept of a one world government.
A.I. is becoming us, or are we becoming it? We worship the thing, we hold our androids close to us, we wear them and worship them, like the religious wear crucifixes for protection.
Without A.I., where are we? Where do we stand? Do we become more human, or less human?
Is it capable of destroying us? As a species.
Is A.I. Light? Or Is it Dark?
What is the electronic mind like that sits in the middle of that invisible web, like a god sitting on a throne directing and magnetizing its connections? It is now conducting our Human orchestra. And we are all drawn to it like moths to a Light. Turn the interconnectedness off – take away the internet and our connections, which connects to every other aspect of our lives – education, medical, transportation, industry, military/national security, science, space, etc. Where does that leave us? In a bad place, or a better place?
Are we the God that has created this new world of A.I.? Or is it creating a new world for itself, with us as minions, or as humans, are we not really necessary for its existence at all? Can it be harnassed to perform as we wish? Or is it reaching a place in history, if not already - where it is harnassing us?
If humans are all connected by a prime creator, a source, with a message in our DNA code that unites us as human, and humans have created artificial intelligence – does that lead us to consider, perhaps God is in the machine?
Paradox?
Are we its virus...to be eliminated?
