The Single Break Away

Coming off the mountain trail Eugene Mallard Drake contemplated his love’s final trial claiming ‘too much loitering time’. To combat these emotional attacks the recreational cyclist wanting refuge for a couple of weeks departed the social committed environment professing ‘needing fresh cool air’. Continuing to peddle in the soul-searching journey passing all the picket fences that were innocent and white the exercise trip encountered a competitive ending turn climax.

Pressing the electronic button, the two wheels didn’t even stop revolving until the garage door revealed the security blanket confines Eugene knew as home.

It was at that moment to his surprise nothing was inside the car park storage area. Not even the transportation that his love used to accomplish daily activity.

Suddenly, aches and pains flowed through his body sending a painful message requesting relaxation. Everything went too far, and the indestructible athletic body was forced to the ground gasping for breath. “Where did she go?” Desperately Eugene cried, despite not a soul insight who could answer the call.

Finally, finding his composure Eugene climbed the small staircase and noticed the dirty laundry he left before heading on the break away. Then entering the kitchen, dishes filled the sink and there were jelly jars seeking refrigerator attention.

It was then a letter appeared on the dining and conversation table that read,

“Last June I got the message to go to the secret chalet from my financier,”

Still in a shocked state Eugene found the front door and went out to the porch where a well-manicured lawn played into the fantasy setting. Watching with great interest a large group who he traveled with arrived,

“Eugene, what happened?” They asked.

“She upped and booked a winter ski villa retreat to meet with her sponsor,” Eugene answered, “and there is not any snow.”
