The Luncheon Date

An oil canvas painting remembered Lady Munnings a true equestrian who lived it up until one day her bank account was out of the money.

According to the legend there was an allowance up for grabs and when her Chef Cardi G disappeared from the scene at the last second son in law Ben Salem cooked up an Irish stew using an odds-on favorite recipe from the Chub Wagon which was a daily feature in the village.

Peering out the window Ben could see Rolls Royce Joyce speed up to get the closest place, but something was missing when the widow came up the wooden steps.

“So, where is Charly?” Ben inquired opening the screen door.

“Oh, he went over with his friend Dr. Robertson to the cliff,” Joyce reported taking off the fashionable white gloves, “apparently they want to work on his brain, you know give him a bigger IQ.”

“I hope that won’t take away any of Charly’s Charm,” Lady Munnings was glad to see her luncheon companion.

“I surely do not think so,” Joyce replied as Ben Salem escorted the two out of the work area and into the elegant dining room.

Each taking a seat both being pleasant to the gentlemen who knew how to cook and married into the affluent setting.

“Ben,” Lady Munnings said getting ready for the culinary show, “you are a truly a golden kid or as they say in the Mexican ports ‘kid D’oro.”

Reality was he felt like Noah sailing his ark in the dark having only a second to produce a plan to collect the allowance Lady Munnings was claiming.

Returning to the cooking corner there was a bowl full of spuds that suddenly appeared, standing over them a voice was rattling in his head.

“Splice the main brace,” was the advice from the invisible source, “that is the winning solution, splice the main brace go for the financial aid and cut it apart.”

Not sure if he heard splice or slice Ben Salem started to count how many emerald island vegetables were sitting in the dish, “One two three potatoe four,” the mumbling noted.

“Three will be enough,”

After the preparation Ben Salem put the food in the microwave and in a few minutes, there was a TV style dinner.

Walking out the first thing he heard was, “that looks delicious,”

“That is my son in law,”

Smiling he left the entrée and they both dug in while Ben Salem noticed two shadows lurking around the frying pan.

When he pushed open the doors there was Cardi G and Charly fooling around with the spices.

“After they eat that cuisine, they will be out of the money,” Charly said about his brainy plan.

“We call it the Spirit Special,” Cardi G added enjoying the left-over tater,

“Way to the riches checkbook,” Charly put his arm around Ben Salem,

“Indigestion,” Cardi G finished the thought.
