The Last Letter
Ella sat by the window, the rain tapping softly against the glass, mirroring the tears she had held back for days. Her fingers trembled as she held the letter from Jack, the one that had ended everything. They had been together for three years, and she never saw it coming.
Jack's words were gentle but firm. He wrote about their different paths and how he felt they had grown apart. He wanted to find himself, he said, and believed she needed to do the same. Ella read the letter over and over, hoping to find a hidden meaning, a secret message that said he still loved her. But all she found was the painful truth.
The first few weeks were the hardest. Everywhere she looked, memories of Jack lingered. The coffee shop where they had their first date, the park where they shared their dreams, even her favorite book still had his notes scribbled in the margins. She felt like a ghost, wandering through the remnants of their past.
Ella's friends tried to console her, but their words felt empty. She would smile and nod, pretending everything was okay, but inside, she was falling apart. Nights were the worst. She would lie in bed, staring at the ceiling, replaying every moment they had shared, wondering what went wrong.
One evening, Ella decided to clean out her closet. She thought it might help her move on. As she sifted through old clothes and forgotten trinkets, she stumbled upon a box of letters. They were from Jack, written throughout their relationship. She hesitated but then decided to read them one last time.
Each letter was filled with love and promises of forever. She smiled at the sweet memories, but it also made her realize how much they had changed. By the time she reached the last letter, the one that ended it all, she felt a strange sense of clarity.
Ella sat back and looked out the window. The rain had stopped, and the clouds were beginning to part, letting the sunlight peek through. She realized that while Jack had been a huge part of her life, he wasn't the only part. She had dreams, passions, and a future waiting for her.
With a deep breath, Ella gathered the letters and put them back in the box. She wasn't ready to throw them away, but she was ready to let go. She knew healing would take time, and she would still have moments of sadness, but she also knew she had the strength to move forward.
Ella stood up, feeling lighter than she had in weeks. She opened the window, letting the fresh air fill the room. It was a new day, and with it came new possibilities. She was ready to face them, one step at a time.
