The clever farmer

Once a farmer lived in a remote village. He had two sons and they were worked with his father in the field. The sons were grown up well and waited for marriage. The farmer's wife was sick and she wanted to see her son's marriage before her death. For the first son they fixed a girl from Koothur, a neighbouring village. In the same manner, they fixed a girl from Atthur,a neighbouring village for the second son.The farmer arranged the marriages in the village temple. As per the willing of the farmer's wife, the marriages were held . After a month the farmer's wife died. The farmer was also very weak and he was not able to work in the field. So he handed over the fields to his sons. They were also cultivated the fields just like their father. The two daughters- in -law didn't look after their father in law.The old farmer told about the ill -treating of the daughters -in -law to his sons. But the sons heard only the words of their wives. The old farmer wanted to teach a lesson to his daughters- in- law.He thought that the act of his daughters-in-law should not be continued to his sons also. He went to the field and collected the castor seeds. Then he put all the castor seeds into a small tin and covered the tin with a cloth. When his daughters- in -law passed him he jolted the tin.The tin produced the coins sound. The daughters- in -law thought that their father in law had more money. Now there was a competition had arisen in between them. The first and the second daughters -in- law looked after the old farmer very well.Days were rolled. The old farmer became very weak. One day he died. The news spread through out the village. Most of the men and women visited the death house. The daughters in law were very much interested to get the money which their father -in -law kept it secretly. The daughter -in- law of Atthur took the tin first.Over enthusiasm she opened it.But she found only castor seeds in it.She disappointed. The daughter- in- law of Koothur weeping along with the women in the death house. She saw that her sister had taken the tin which was owned by her father- in- law.She wanted to get the share from her sister. So she lamented like this "Atthura ,what was inside the tin? Atthura replied to Koothura that they were castor seeds."Both of the daughters- in -law were easily cheated by their father -in -law cleverly. Then they realised their mistakes and looked after their husbands very well.
