The chocolate bar

I remember sauntering down the sun splattered corridor
pulling at the constricting knot
and unfastening the top button
That's when she came into my life
A group of giggling wannabes with too much makeup
a haze of smells following behind them

They jutted quickly to the opposite side
their points and whispers whipped
towards a figure prone on the floor
her back wedged against a stained oak
a pair of oversized headphones
crowned her oil black tangles
she licked the tip of her finger
as she turned a thesaurus
her nodding head not missing a beat
many times since i had seen teachers
scowl at her
as her returning legs had nearly
clipped their heels
She squirmed to achieve her perfect position
leaving an indent on the dusty polished floors
but this was the first time i had noticed her
Her face gave a couldn't give a fuck vibe
As i neared her
mischief raised itself within me
i scrabbled at the patched bag
slung low on my back
delving between the unfinished homework
and punishment sheets
felt the point of an upturned compass
then my fingers brushed a foil wrap.
As i slipped by her outstretched legs
gingerly i dropped my chocolate bar
between her open pages
and continued further up the corridor
Turning on my heels slightly
as i entered an alcove to the upper level
I caught a glimpse of her ruby
lips ripping toffee and chocolate
in hanging strands
and turned hiding my smile
That became my lunchtime habit
hurriedly wolfing done desserts and mains
disappointed if her spot was empty
