The Battle within

In a body called Nangongo, there was a perfect, happy day for all its inhabitants had worked their part to achieve homeostasis. But the heart grew restless and began to sulk. ' Oh, it whined! This cannot simply be! There is something wrong, something missing, but I can't put my finger on it! There was nothing missing by the way, for all the books had been read, all the thoughts had been thought, all the loved ones had been loved, all the work had been done and it was simply a perfect, happy day. Still the heart brooded and wondered and became all the more restless. And so the feet tired of watching in silence wrote, 'Correct the heart, Lord Brain, for as we speak it's brooding about how happiness is boring. Remind it to just be happy with being happy or else in trouble it shall make us walk'. The Brain sighed, for that was not the first report. The stomach had complained of an overload of sugary passengers earlier on and the liver agreed but was told to shut up for at least it never had to deal with alcohol. The lungs whined of overexertion for it was spooked by heavy breathing when a sprint in the cold seemed appealing to the heart. They too were told to shut up, for at least that sprint did everyone some good. Some organs too complained, but their stories can not be told for they are sealed and classified for the sake of national interest. The Pancreas did not like this at all, for it wondered who got told. Nonetheless, it decided to hold its peace for it feared, if it did not keep its anger in check, it would digest them all. As the Brain issued a court order to decide this matter at trial, a shiver ran down the spine and the kidneys leaked with dread for it never did like such news. 'Appendix must have foreseen this', the large intestines whispered to its smaller sister, ' no wonder he was so inflamed!'. 'Lord rest his soul', the small intestine sadly replied. The ovaries twitched, once again released an oocyte on a pointless monthly walk to death and made no comment. So a date was set for the Heart to be tried. She showed up to court, dressed in a hat of beliefs, a tight dress of values and ethics, hiding beneath it an even tighter corset of norms. Everyone thought, she looked lovely, a creature of unparalleled beauty. So you can imagine their shock when she smiled with quivering lips, took off her hat and stripped off her dress and all the underthings! The Brain gasped in horror, took out it gavel and ordered for silence but soon realised it was making all the noise! Quickly, it took out a whip of memories spiked with tales of the folly of rebellious hearts and prepared to strike the foolish wayward heart, but it too was taken aback, by the beauty and truth in the nakedness it saw. In that moment, reason, logic and knowledge all failed. Thankfully, Nangongo awoke, almost unaware of the events within. She knelt down and prayed, and off she went about her day, as she surrendered the reigns to her Shepherd. -Laulindah #thehundredth
