Shelby is From Saturn chapter 1

One day not so long ago Shelby was sitting on her bed the covers pulled back and she was staring out the window with her legs dangling off the edge of the bed. Her black and white polka dot nightgown just about reached the ground when she stood up. How am I going to explain to my parents the guy following me yesterday. Shelby thought to herself. She knows they need to talk because stuff floating around her room isnt normal for a seventeen year old girl.

“Ma” Shelby is walking out of her room about ten a.m. on Saturday.

“Yea Shel I am in the kitchen what do you need?” Her mom is standing at the kitchen counter knowing this day was coming.

“Mom can we sit down for a minute? Something happened yesterday.” Shelby goes back to the dining room table. “Is dad around?” Shelby sat down hoping her mom would say yes.

“Jay can you come here please?” Her husband came in from the garage. He was greasy but he sat at the table not knowing what to expect.

The three were sitting at the table and the parents could tell their daughter was in trouble. A father of a seventeen year old girl automatically wants to know who the guy is. Jay looked at his wife and she just shook her head.

“You guys it's not that you can relax.” Shelby knew they thought she was going to say congrats you're grandparents.

Standing up Shelby starts to explain that a guy in a dark sedan and a dark suit with a black tie was following her all day yesterday. From the minute she left the house to go to school til she came home to go to bed he was everywhere she went.

“You know Shel maybe you are mistaken.” Her dad got up to comfort her knowing it wasn’t helping.

“DAD he was following me watching me and stalking me.” Feeling like she wasn’t being heard she was almost in tears.

“Ok Shelby I hear you is there anything else you need to say?” Standing there not knowing if her parents knew something or if they just wanted to pretend they were listening. Shelby started to say no. I do want to show you something though and led them to her room.

Walking into her room she asks them to stand in the doorway and not to speak. Shelby goes to her dresser which is across the room from her parents and other side of the bed. She wanted to make sure they had a perfect view to see what was about to happen.

Shelby motioned her hands as if she was making her bed. The blankets were moving and her parents were standing there watching when Shelby was done the two parents calmly turned around and went back to the table.

“Shelby was annoyed and really upset.” Going to her dad she leaned down and asked “Am I mistaken now?”

“You guys, is there something I should know?” Shelby was very close to tears and not knowing if her parents betrayed her.

“Ok Shel here it is, you are from saturn and have been here a little over five years.” Her dad is trying to be honest but doesn't know how much he should tell her.

“We found you walking aimlessly around the park one day and we always wanted a daughter. We watched for missing children and kept our eyes open for posters.” Her mother explained.

“We thought it was odd you never get sick and you learn stuff so easy. We just thought we were blessed and went with it.” The dad stood up and went to make a pot of coffee.

“I think that guy you saw is from the government. I think he knows you are different and they have been watching for a couple of years.” Her dad comes back and sits down as the coffee perks.

“Shelby, do me a favor and don’t use your gifts in public.” I am just worried if he/they see you they might chase you or worse.” Her mom stands up and goes and gets three cups for coffee

“Are there others? Were there others walking around?” Shelby is hoping she's not alone.

Jay looks at his wife trying to remember, actually I think there was a boy and another girl about the same age. We couldn’t afford all five of us. That's why we took you.
