pumpkin jack - introduction
Introduction
pumpkin jack wasn't always called that
he garnered the name after a bad poker game
where he confessed to the killing of a dame named Jane
a calamity by nature she was tall of stature
impressive when she spoke
you wanted her alone
when she was around other folk
you might think i have spoiled the end
by telling you her fate coming around the bend
but when we are close to deaths embrace
it is a chill you can feel on your face
so i have not diluted the lore
nor the impending gore
further more
she was a danger to all who knew her
and the world is safer now that she is dead
he shot her full of lead
in the heat of the night
as the moon hung so bright
on a train heading for dover
bright red, the car had blood all over
he had to watch his caboose
made a run to avoid the noose
he lives by freight train, ore cars, and tracks
living out of an old black napsack
eating cans of spam from the markets he ransacks
inbetween towns with names
and places that always remain the same
but this is just one portion of a feast of a tale
of how he received the name pumpkin jack of the rails
