Maddie the Christmas Mouse

She sat on top of the fireplace, eating a piece of cheese. No one knew she was there, which is exactly how she liked it.
From her location, she could see the Christmas tree in all of its glory and splendor. Truly, a sight to behold, especially at night when the lights were shining bright. On the table below stood a warm glass of milk and a plate of warm, fresh chocolate chip cookies. Can you imagine the aroma?
Well, the scent arose, and it hit her in the nose….
“CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES!!!” she thought to herself. Without hesitation, she took a leap from where she sat, looking to land on the table…. But something else happened. A toy airplane caught her in midair! Hanging on for dear life, she closed her eyes and started to scream.
Round and round and round, she would go.
Where would she land?
Soon, you will know.
Losing her grip, she flew into the Christmas tree, knocking the star off of the top, and falling straight into the pile of presents below. After being out of it for a few seconds, she shook the cobwebs out and proceeded to run towards the table of goodies. Her attention turned to the beauty of gift wrapping paper that was all around her. There were bikes, teddy bears, and about 30 other presents that I can’t mention in this story, because I have no idea what they were!
She didn’t have time to acknowledge the pretty sight for long; she was determined to get to those cookies and milk before Santa arrived. On top of that, it was 11:58pm. So what was a mouse to do?
Time was not on her side….
It was now or never. So, she ran up the beautiful table cloth as quick as she could, not knowing that she was leaving foot prints and traces of cheese behind her. Suddenly, the lights went out, and so did the fire! With no time to spare, she quickly ran behind the glass of milk, hoping that Santa wouldn’t see her. It was hard trying to be still and be quiet, because right next to her…. were the cookies! The smell was so distracting.
Now, Santa, unbeknownst to her presence, went to grab a cookie and eat. Next, he went for the glass of milk, but where was she? Clinging to the side of the glass itself, so when he went to take a sip, he immediately throws the glass down to the ground, spitting his milk out.
A moment of silence of our little friend, you may ask? No, there’s more to this….
Santa looked her in the eye, dropped his sack of gifts, and lifted her up by her tail. “Santa, PLEASE! Don’t hurt me! I’m just a mouse! I eat cheese all year long! I wanted something a little more sweet and enjoyable to eat.”
Santa laughed and replied, “If you wanted a cookie and some milk, all you had to do was ask. Or in this case, leave a note for me like the children did.” 12:04am, Santa was sitting in the recliner, and she sat on his shoulder, both enjoying cookies. When she grew thirsty…. Well, that’s what the straw was for.
Needless to say, it was truly an adventure she will never forget. “Nicholas is going to be so mad that I ate his cookies,” she thought.
“But it is SO worth it!!”
