Harbour waves

Gather around, let me tell you a story, a tale untold, some might call it a myth but I'll let you decide what you think.     A long time ago on a coast off Syria, there was an island, over the years this island has had many names one of which is most popular Atlantis. It was said that the natives always kept to themselves, they never left the island, never travelled, sailors would set sail looking for the island and when they finally find it they were always too far away, on sea for months, but were never close to the island it was as if the island was moving further away. The searchers grew curious of the activities of the islanders, so they devised a plan to get the attention of the islanders , if they could not go to the island they would have the island come to them. They wrote letters more like an SOS, asking for help, they said " To anyone who is reading we need your help , we set sail to the Mediterranean sea and our ship was caught in a storm and we can no longer   sail , we have no food and water, and how women and children are falling ill, please send help "   It was a small note tied to the feet of a messenger bird. The travellers waited for weeks, their patience was priceless, did had no idea what they were waiting, or if there will ever be a response but they were hopeful, excited, the thought of giving up never crossed their mind, they waited for a response bit instead they got an audience. The felt a storm coming they were about to turn back, until a ship pointed its head out of the dark of night, She was beautiful and huge, this ship came towards them and they could do nothing but stare, a young man came of the ship and introduced himself as the captain of the mighty ship, their was no response from the travellers as they were still very much mesmerized by the beauty of the ship, " did you send the SOS?" the captain said, on hearing the question the travellers came back to their senses and responded, the captain invited them to join him on his ship and they agreed without a doubt. They boarded the captains ship and set sail to wherever in the morning.       The travellers had questions but weren't in haste to get answers and this made the captain suspicious, he discreetly brought his reservations to the presence of his cohorts but they didn't seem bothered by the travellers nonchalance. Sooner than later they arrived at an island, the island, the ship docked at an harbour and the travellers were asked to alight the ship. They were  welcomed warmly and escorted to a cabin were they were served a feast, all this hospitality began to tinkle the suspicion of the travellers, their were silent whispers of their generosity being the fattening before the slaughter, but what could they do at this point, they lost all power the moment they got on the ship. At sunset the captain came to the cabin to request a representative to attend a meeting to discuss their fate, after hesitation from the travellers, a young man  volunteered to do what is asked of them and go with the captain. They walked through the beautiful village, and he say the villagers were all happy, the children were all playing games laughing smiling, some men walked past them chatting like they had no worries, this shocked the traveller, all through their walk to the meeting, he could only wonder why and how people could be so happy. On getting to the meeting, the traveller was treated has an equal, like family instead of the complete stranger he was, they welcomed him and expressed their sympathy, for the loss of his ship, they gave him a new ship so he and his people could continue their journey. The traveller was shocked, he could not believe their kindness because he knew deep down he wouldn't do the same, he was escorted back to the cabin to spend the night. The travellers stayed for a few days and were escorted to the harbour where their new ship was docked, but what was docked next to their ship, Kratokoa, that's what the captain called her, the mighty ship that picked them up, the travellers' representative kept starring at Kratokoa until it was time to board their ship and set sail to the Mediterranean or home.    In a few days they arrived home, the travellers' representative could not stop thinking about the island and Kratokoa, even seeing his family was not enough to distract him from the thought of getting that ship. He could not sleep, at first light he was up and off to the village prime minister to discuss and derive a plan to take over the island. To be straightforward this was completely expected, the greed from this people, no wonder islanders stayed as far away as they did.   It took some weeks of planning but they were finally ready to attack the islanders, they set sail with one thought in mind, take it all and leave no one alive.     They arrived at the harbour and the islanders were happy to see them " it feels amazing to have guests", one islander said, as they were about to welcome them properly the travellers drew their weapons and stabbed a woman in the chest, the islanders were confused, they were unsure of their next move, they stood their unguarded and unharmed, so they were slaughtered by the travellers at the harbour, and since the harbour was isolated from the main village the rest of the villagers were unaware of the massacre ahead of them, they ran into the village killing them one by one without a sweat, the women, the children, the men, no one was left alive. They piled their body and decided to wait still the next day to burn it, but for the rest of the night, celebration, eating their food, drinking their wine practically spitting on the face of the dead. After a night of jubilation, we are aware of the slumber that follows, it was even more peaceful with the cool sea breeze, it wasn't cold, it wasn't hot, it was just right, no wonder the islanders were so happy all the time.    The hangover afterwards was awful, that is the least of what they deserve but it was only the tip of the iceberg. Some of the travellers had to go back to the harbour to get the rest of their things while the rest stayed back to burn the bodies. One pile after the other they set ablaze, what simpler way to  quench fire than with water, one pile after the other the higher the wave, their celebration was preparation for their slaughter. The men at the harbour ran for their life's, the men in the village just laughed and smiled, the travellers and the island had a strife, out of the fire came the islanders that were piled.  For an island that chose to stay out of sight, it was quite easy to destroy, or it was quite easy to underestimate its might, for an island full of joy it was quite easy to annoy. The water drowned everything, even the island lays under the sea.         Over the years the island has been rumoured to appear once in a while and the water chases all the humans close by to ensure the safety of the islanders.           THE    END
