Drama In London:Fiction

On a peaceful Monday morning in the National London Bank a most disturbing scene began. “Oh no!! Rorah!” Zayne shouted as she found out that the bank money was stolen! “Yes, miss”. “Who in this entire world stole the bank money??!!” “I am not sure miss. Only Julia Jess was in the room in the morning” “Call her at once!” shouted Zayne.

“Yes miss” “Don’t call me miss, Rorah.” “Yes miss,” said Rorah. At that moment Julia entered the room, with her face as red as a tomato. “I didn’t do it”, she said. “She did it”, said Julia pointing to Rorah. Quiet, sweet Rosie was the culprit?? ‘It can’t be!’ thought Zayne. Rorah came forward. “Miss, I didn’t do it. Please believe me,” said Rorah, almost in tears. “We’ll see about that”, said Julia with a huff.

Zayne looked at the two ladies. Who was the culprit? “I demand for justice against Rorah Rose,’’ demanded Julia, looking redder than ever. “There’s only one way to seek justice. We must see the judge,” said Zayne. The three ladies walked to the judge’s office which was at the corner of the road. At the judge’s court the judge heard the case and thought for some time. Both ladies looked innocent. But one cannot tell who was really innocent. Finally, the judge spoke. “I find you case most disturbing as well as puzzling. We also know that there have been many local thefts so to make sure that justice is truly brought, we must talk to Mr. Durk Hues the Detective. “He’s still alive??” asked the three ladies in shock. Mr. Durk Hues was a very clever and famous detective in the nineties. But during these days he was rarely spoken of. “Of course, he’s alive. Now come come or we shall be late”, said the judge and saying so he got up and went out followed by the three ladies. They walked to the second house on Howler Street. It was very shabby and the house was covered in dust. “This house gives me the creeps!” said Julia. “Are you sure we need to go in? Can’t we just stay outside?” asked Rorah timidly. “Yah! Do we really need to go in? Anyways we already know who’s the real culprit”, said Julia eyeing Rorah. “Now now this house is not soo bad. We’ll just go in and come out” said Zayne assuring them. So, the four of them walked into the upside-down house as the bell was broken and they didn’t want to knock in case the door broke. They were astonished at seeing a great, big hall that led to a single room. They all tip-toed towards the room and each time they took a step, it made a creaky noise. When they got inside the room, they heard a voice. “Who has come to see the No Longer Great Mr. Durk Hues?” asked a gruff and deep voice. Then out of the shadows came out Mr. Durk Hues. He was a tall man with a curly, black moustache. He wore a stained suit and a dusty, old hat. He wore spectacles and looked at the four visitors. “What have you come for?” asked Mr. Durk Hues. “We have a most disturbing and unexpected case. We need your help to solve it,” said the judge seeing that the other three were tongue-tied. “Hmm… And what do I get in return?” questioned Mr. Durk Hues, now tapping his walking stick on the floor. “Umm well… you might get your title back,” said Zayne. “Very well. I shall help you. But in the end, you must also promise that whatever I did to help must be printed in the newspaper,” said Mr. Durk, getting his coat and hat. “Yes, Yes,” said Julia Jess tired of hearing Mr. Durk’s demands for just one case. So, the five of them left the house and went to the bank. “Hmm… Now show me where the bank money was kept,” said Mr. Durk observing the bank carefully. Zayne took him to the room where the bank money was kept in a drawer. “Now was this drawer kept locked at all times?” asked Mr. Durk looking at the drawer. “Yes, the only people who have the access to this drawer is me, Julia, Rorah and the Staff manager but he’s on off this weekend.” Said Zayne. “Now this is a most interesting and puzzling case,” said Mr. Durk Hues taking out his magnifying glass to look for fingerprints. He took a look at the drawer and then gave out a yell! ‘Oh my!” said Mr. Durk in astonishment. “What?” asked the four others. “There seems to be no fingerprints on this drawer and nor on the key which Zayne has handed to me!” yelled Mr. Durk “Oh no!” moaned the four people. “Well I can’t help you now” sighed Mr. Durk and was leaving out the door when he caught sight of a small red box. “What’s that?” he said pointing to the box. “Well that’s the box where I keep the other two keys,” said Zayne. Mr. Durk walked towards the box and took a look at the box with his magnifying glass. “Ah ha! I found our answer,” said Mr. Durk proudly. The other four came closer to the box and then they saw some fingerprints. “They look like…. Julia’s!!” shouted Zayne. “Wh…aa.tt??” stammered Julia. “I promise I didn’t do anything!” Julia protested. “It’s simple. Julia opened the box took out a key, opened the drawer and stole the money! Case solved,” said Mr. Durk avoiding Julia’s protests. The four of them started walking towards the door except for Julia who looked as if she was going to yell like anything, when Miss Violet, one of the staff managers came rushing in and said, “Miss Zayne I actually wanted to tell you that I…” But before she could complete, Zayne interrupted her saying, “Sorry Miss Violet, but right now I am busy and I am handling a very, very sensitive case. We’ll talk later,”. “But Miss Zayne it’s important!” said Miss Violet, but it was too late. The five lot had walked off to the judge’s court. In the judge’s court, Mr. Durk declared that Miss Julia Jess was guilty of stealing the bank money. Zayne and Rorah had to agree with Mr. Durk because the evidence was quite clear. As the judge was making his final statement, someone came rushing into the court. “Please… Stop! I need to speak,” shouted Miss Violet, panting heavily. “Violet I told you, now is not the time,” ordered Zayne. “Listen! Yesterday at about 5pm the staff manager returned from his vacation. He came early because he heard that there were some local thefts going on, so he came in at 5pm to take the bank money and keep it in the secret safe. I was on duty then. So, he told me that he had taken the money. I was supposed to tell you but when I came to your office at 11am I couldn’t find you. I tried looking for you until now,” said Miss Violet and let out a deep breath. The courtroom was silent for a minute. Then Mr. Durk spoke up. “So, the bank money was not stolen. But could you explain the fingerprints of Julia on the box?” “Ahem, I think it’s time I get to talk. In the morning when I was in the room, I too checked the drawer and found the money to be stolen, so I checked the red box to see if any of the keys were missing,” said Julia with a grin. “Oh. So, why didn’t you tell us that?” asked Zayne. “Each time I tried too someone interrupted me,” said Julia with a huff. “So, I see the case is clear and it definitely ended unexpectedly,” said the judge, “Well then Case-Is-Closed”. Zayne, Rorah, Julia, Violet and Mr. Durk made their way home. “Well, all ends well,” said Rorah. “Yes, I am glad I got there in time,” said Violet smiling. “Ahem, sorry to interrupt but I think you are forgetting something,” said Mr. Durk raising an eyebrow. “Oh yes. Your title and newspaper,” said Julia with a huff. “Well I actually know someone who works at a newspaper press. I am pretty sure he can handle it,” said Rorah shyly. “Very well. Make sure my name is written in the newspaper,” said Mr. Durk grinning. “Ok, ok,” said the other three with a huff. The next day, in the newspaper there was the front headline saying,
