Blown away A true army experience

I was in the Army as a patriot missle systems technician from 1990 to 1994. I was never deployed although I did volunteer to go to Kuwait and got all of the shots and then the mission was called off at the last minute. I did how ever have a few adventures that I will write about.
We had a big military exercise called operation roving sands. It was held at white sands new mexico training grounds out in the desert. We had six man tents with camoflouge netting over top. The netting was held up by long poles some made of fiberglass and some made of alluminum. Well one day a big wind storm came and was so powerful that it was blowing the netting and tents away. Well not wanting to have to run through the desert chasing after our netting I went out and grabbed one of the support poles that was holding up the netting because the wind was about to take it. I grabbed on tight determined not to let it get away! And then it happened. A big gust of wind blew up under that netting and like a parachute it picked up the netting with me still holding on to the pole and I landed on top of that six man tent. I got up still holding to that pole but closer to the top now because I was on the tent. And guess what? Yep that pole was one of the fiberglass ones and it broke and down I went bang landing on my back about two feet from a tent stake and thank God I missed it. But that hard dessert ground knocked the wind out me so I laid there for a minute and a couple of the guys came out and looked down and asked if I was ok. I said yes and they walked off. Well at least they did ask if I was ok LOL. Long story short we resecured everything and did not have to chase after it.
