Bachelor's At The Plate

It was not a big issue but in only a few hours an event where two people exchanged rings for eternity found itself swiped aside like chips following a losing card table experience. Projected as an odds-on favorite relationship a simple mistaken communication turned the angelic affair into a nightmare that could be compared to a wakeup call following a meal featuring Italian spices or hot sauced chicken wings from a franchise known for wait staff wearing running shorts.

After returning to the hotel room Roger thought it was a wonderful that the two, he watched enjoying blissful love were finally tying the knot. But what he did not hear was the argument that erupted due to what was on the menu. A debatable tempting tease featuring a New York sirloin steak like he wanted, or a tartar sauce glazed marlin straight from the Atlantic Ocean.

Walking out of the room Roger felt the anger and tension in the corridor that before the stroke of midnight hours ago was filled with a dream like fantasy.

“What happened?” He asked a housekeeper working the hallway.

“You see there was a food fight,” the worker explained, “fixings all over the place.”

Continuing down the path the backup catcher saw his collegiate All American pitcher friend who had nowhere to sleep sitting on the wall-to-wall carpeting, “Donnie,” Roger did exclaim, “what happened?”

“All I said was I wanted a fresh piece of meat,”

And

“Well, she responded, read my lips, I am going fishing,” Donnie carried on with the commentary.

Realizing this was the end to the party Roger stayed with Donnie as the two talked about the good times they had before she came into their lives. And it was then the pair concluded this simple relationship was just an appetizer to a bigger entrée soon to be served.

A couple of hours later the credit cards were run, all the bills were paid, and Roger joined Donnie poolside at the Las Vegas resort which was coming back from a bout with Covid 19.

“Do you know why one gets married in Vegas?” Roger asked

“No,” Donnie replied.

“Despite all the runs, hits and errors in courting,” Roger surmised, “someone can walk out to the pool and go fishing for a nice piece of meat,”

“So maybe let's get one over the plate so she can connect,” Donnie replied as the friends went back to being bachelors.
