An incident in a Paris Restaurant

I still remember the day i recieved the news about my sholarship to Paris. I was in my early 20s. It was a full scholarship with the salary included.

A group of the dirctor came to Paris from Baghdad after a year of me being there. I was the only one who could commnuicate with good french so I was selected to be the translator on that day.

We all went to a nice restaurant and sat outside.

The waitress came and asked for orders. I got everyone what they need.

The Art Cheif Director ordered Fish "Poisson" so I translated the order.

I asked the waitrss "Puis - je commander du Poison s'il vous plait?

Waiter laughs and leaves and said SUR/ Sure.

they brought all the plates on the table except the chief director's dish.

The Director looked at me with unhappy looks and I was sweating and nervous , I called the waitress again and asked her the same question. "Puis - je commander du POISON s'il vous plait? "

The waitress laughs and says: (Grande Partie?) = Big porsion ?

I say: Oui s'il vous plait, il a faim. / Yes please he is hungry.

The waiteress laughs and says. Sure... I will bring it right away!!

I said Merci Merci...

Then every1 finished eating and fish still not ready.

I then called for the manager and I explained to him in English that our Fish order was not placed.

The Manager deeply apologized, called the waiterss and scolled her saying how you never brought the order.

She said sorry he was asking me for POISON (poison) and not POISSION. (POESSON) so i thought he hated the man next to him and was JOKING!!!

So After that,I wasn't proud anymore of my broken FRENCH and didn't brag about my french.
