A Graded Stakes Dream

Inside a rural sleepy village there was a schoolhouse where Chesam had a lot at stake since grades were a priority. Peering at his evaluation marks which displayed all “B’s” the young lad felt like a failure since there was not an “A” that could be found.

Taking a second Chesam thought, “it is not like I staked my football jersey on whether I would score the top grade,” he said using a light refrain attitude knowing that this did not mean he was out of the money. Instead from the tactical standpoint being lost in the crowd could be a wonderful way to figure things out.

Time had passed and the student masses left the scholastic building leaving Chesam to walk into the afternoon sunshine that warmed his heart alone but focused on the task at hand, “it just had been a dream of dreams to be a winner,” Chesam pondered hiking into a scenic place.

When a voice interjected, “boy,” Chesam turned around to see a gypsy sitting waiting for someone to listen, “have you ever been to the Scottish place ‘Glen Shiel’?”

“No,” Chesam answered in a timid tone.

“You think a perfect sheet with all “A’s” and no room for improvement is honest?” The wise fixture asked, “let me tell you this Lord Carpenter let the Jacobite’s go as those who were there said,"

“Do not always show all your strength my dear young one instead send a message you are truthful.” She stated.

“Yes, I am an honest boy, lady Gypsy, that is more important than being too smart,” Chesam remarked, “that is honorable, am I correct?”

Smiling the gypsy responded, “yes, my child here take this, it is the Diamond Queen Jubilee Stake, it has the appearance of being rich and beautiful on the outside but the art power it contains inside the wooden jewels shows the proper path one should pursue,”

As the vision disappeared Chesam held the kind gesture token and said to himself, “I have all ‘B’s not ‘C’s or ‘D’s’,”

Using the prized gift as a staff guide Chesam continued the journey until church bells started to ring around him and the sound made silkworms in the trees dance with merriment.

“What is going on here?” The young boy questioned before he heard a discussion that seemed like an argument.

“What do you mean?” A ghostly looking man asked, “this is the King’s Lynn, and he has the building rights with a piece of paper called the ‘Workingham Stake’.”

“I do not mean to start a civil war, but my boss has the stake to build the Golden Gate in these waters for the Chalk Stream to run through and here is the paper to prove it,”

“The Chalk what? Never heard of it, where is this Chalk Stream?”

Then the moving pictures dissolved when a fox tail could be seen alluding hounds to take away the trophy. Once again Chesam found himself traveling the same road, “Civil wars, water, such mayhem,” he thought about it in his mind.

Suddenly, another apparition formed and there was a mother like image wearing a crown using two canes and holding a rose, “you are Queen Alexandra, I read about you in a library book I stole oh sorry borrowed, wrote a report paper handed it in late, got a B.”

“Well, that is very good,” the moving photograph replied, “did your teacher meet me? I am Queen Alexandra.”

“I do not think so,”

“If your teacher would have known me, I bet you would have gotten an ‘A’,” Queen Alexandra laughed, “that is my stake in your issue that troubles you.”

“You have a stake too?”

That is when the magic in Chesam’s hand started to display a strong glow and Queen Alexandra had to shield her eyes,

“I tell you I need the grand visir since your toy there has a bright showing,”

“It’s not a toy my dear Queen, it’s the Diamond Queen Jubilee Stake and it is supposed to show me my way, an honest path to success.”

Having a century old chuckle Queen Alexandra instructed the student trying to learn, “say I enjoyed my dream of dreams, and I am a winner then I will take and second by calling the wind.”

Within an instant Chesam was back in his American home with his head holding the pages still and next to him the modern box spoke, “we are rocking ham our county with the number one placed classic songs in Stratham, New Hampshire.”

Picking up a pen Chesam started to write the creative homework assignment that was due tomorrow and when the sun rose, strutted confidently into class. “Here is my creative writing homework honest and on time,” Chesam told the teacher, “It’s historical fiction that knows you were not there.”
