We were just a one-room bookstore; we didn't have any money for lawyers.

Yes, I sing songs about relationships on the edge, relationships of all kinds, but remember I did not write them all, ... They are not all based on my experiences. Years ago, I wrote with Dennis Walker and Bruce Bromberg, who were 10 years older and divorced two or three times. They had great senses of humor, which is where lines like 'a boatload of lawyers just sank' came from. It is their stories on Strong Persuader, my breakthrough album from 1986. Sneaking out the window, 'Porch Light,' they are not my songs or lines. So, my life is not as miserable as some of the music makes it out to be. My wife Sue and I have been married for 15 years. She's an actor, but Sue gets the credit she deserves on some of my songs.

When we say our rulers, we mean those who are engaged in the manipulation of symbols. We must consider ourselves a symbolic, semantic class of life, and cannot cease from being so those who control the symbols rule us. Bankers, priests, lawyers, politicians, [and news media] constitute one class [of our rulers] and work together. They do not produce any values but manipulate the values produced by others, and often pass signs for no value at all. Scientists and teachers also comprise a ruling class. They produce the main values mankind has, but, at present, they do not realize this. They are, in the main, ruled by the cunning methods of the first class.

It's a straightforward matter of equality: it's outrageously unfair that heterosexuals shoulder alone the burden of keeping divorce lawyers in Italian sports cars

There is a rhythm to the ending of a marriage just like the rhythm of a courtship --only backward. You try to start again but get into blaming over and over. Finally you are both worn out, exhausted, hopeless. Then lawyers are called in to pick clean the corpses. The death has occurred much earlier.

Lawyers spend a great deal of their time shoveling smoke.

Warning: Do not drink the battery acid. It doesn't taste good and will hurt you. Also do not bite the tyres, especially while the bike is moving.
Our lawyers made us put these warnings in.

It doesn't concern me that they might have check lists to follow. I've seen the ones that have been proposed by the county commissioners, and it seemed to me reasonable that their lawyers would lay that kind of information out for them like that. I see it as a reasonable method to make sure they comply with the law.

A great many college graduates come here thinking of lawyers as social engineers arguing the great Constitutional issues.

|
It seems to me that there must be an ecological limit to the number of paper pushers the earth can sustain, and that human civilization will collapse when the number of, say, tax lawyers exceeds the world's total population of farmers, weavers, fisherpersons, and pediatric nurses.

|
It is a maxim among these lawyers, that whatever hath been done before, may legally be done again: and therefore they take special care to record all the decisions formerly made against common justice and the general reason of mankind.

The south produced statesmen and soldiers, planters and doctors and lawyers and poets, but certainly no engineers and mechanics. Let Yankees adopt such low callings. Gone With The Wind

We shouldn't have to be burdened with all the technicalities that come up from time to time with shrewd, smart lawyers interpreting what the laws or what the Constitution may or may not say.

|
Doctors are the same as lawyers; the only difference is that lawyers merely rob you, whereas doctors rob you and kill you too.

Lawyers I suppose were children once.

Lawyers -- a profession it is to disguise matters.

Galvin [to a jury]: Today you are the law. You are the law. Not some book. Not the lawyers. Not a marble statue, or the trappings of the court. See, those are just symbols of our desire to be just. They are--they are, in fact, a prayer. A fervent and a frightened prayer.

|
If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen defrocked, doesn't it follow that electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted, cowboys deranged, models deposed, tree surgeons debarked, and dry cleaners depressed.

|
They had their fortunes to make, everything to gain and nothing to lose. They were schooled in and anxious for debates; forcible in argument; ...

It is unfair to believe everything we hear about lawyers, some of it might not be true.

Lawyers in the United States have a central role, a visibility and prominence that doesn't exist anywhere else.

Lawyers can steal more money with a briefcase than a thousand men with guns and masks.

Litigation A form of hell whereby money is transferred from the pockets of the proletariat to that of lawyers.

If the present Congress errs in too much talking, how can it be otherwise in a body to which the people send one hundred and fifty lawyers, whose trade it is to question everything, yield nothing, and talk by the hour?
