I have always enjoyed your work. I hope you aren't going to completely disappear. Sometimes the field needs to lie fallow for replenishment. I find that analogy helps me through the dry spells. Also, I stopped entering contests. Seems to be too much pressure to write something acceptable in a time frame. For me, some poems just come and others develop over time.

There is great wisdom in your words, Karen, and they mirror my feelings exactly. Please suggest a poem of yours using analogy. This might help.

Mark this is a fantastic blog. It reads like a dramatic monologue. I especially like this bit."One can tell the truth and not be honest." I could feel the depth of emotion embedded into your words. Very convincing. Keep writing.

Christine, what can I say? Thank you so much. I'll ponder what else I might have to say that might be worthy of such remarks as yours. I hope you'll do the same.

You are a brilliant, stellar poet, Mark, and you will be most certainly missed, but I understand your reasons and I support you no matter what decision you make.

We can still collaborate, Roy. I just have to carefully manage my life and energy. I was pouring too much of myself into the Soup, at the expense of things I really have to do. My maps are available on Amazon. Search for "Planisphere Star and Constellation Finder" and "Chart of the Heavens." Better to go to my web site, however: www.starglobalmapping.com.

Mark I am sorry you are leaving as I have enjoyed your work and your comments immensely, but I am very jealous of work you aspire to do as the challenge is magnificent and stellar (sorry) I can't wait to see the result and I wish you the very best of luck ...David

Thank you David. I won't entirely disappear, but I'll wait for the rhymes to come instead of forcing an output on some schedule.

My dear Mark, If I may be so bold as to say. Poetry, is an art of expression. Are there literary rules to enter in a competitive forum? Most certainly. But just because one is not skilled enough to play for the NFL does not discount thier love of the game. A professional may slightly touch the lives of many, but it is the novice and their raw gift that most often turns the life of a few upside down. Competitive writers write for others, novices write to release... I will forever be changed because of your gift, your elequence and your heart. I stand your proof that even one life touched has great worth. Blessings! I wish only the best for you. Sincerely, Sarai Romani

Your discernment of the novice's desire for release is astute and apropos. As I indicated, it is not my intent to fall silent, only to manage my limited time and energy and to contribute when moved upon by a genuine need to share and prompted by meaningful rhyme. I cannot force it; it is not mine to command, but it appears from time to time. You, dear Sarai, are an unburied treasure.

you tell him Sarai, 2 pages of poetry? Not even a good try yet, I've written 1644 poems here & I have 650 not here

Oh my, you give up too easy, so much of the contest wins are popularity contests, you think you haven't won because you're only above average? more likely it's because no one really knows you? remember also we are not all in the same time zone, those not in your zone probably haven't seen you are ON LINE and there for not read you, for someone with your education, your vocabulary, your level of technical skill, there are really only 3 things you need to work on #1 EMOTE in your writing #2 write daily [even if it's only in a journal #3 learn more forms focusing on 21st century needs, stopping now is a self filling prophesy

I didn't say this quite right. The breadth of prolific poets should only be applauded and the brevity of another's smaller portfolio ought not to be disparaged. I marvel at yours and others productivity. I gave all I had, consistent with my fading energy.

Of course, the breadth of prolific poets cannot be disparaged, only applauded. However, life energy is finite and must be carefully managed. I am 70 and suffering from advanced diabetes and degenerative bone disease. Your comments on "Diamond in the Sky" summon the embodiment of my contention: difficultly in conveying the essence, regardless of effort. Thus, choices.
