Why Do You Hate Me

When I was a strong teenage athlete in nineteen-seventy two,
Haters called me, "Attila the Hun", why did my appearance offend you?
I bothered no one, just a runner and swimmer,
Mean guys also told the overweight girls to be thinner,
So, girls shouldn't be fit and also shouldn't be fat,
Do you not see the hypocrisy in that?
Misogynists of the world, women are diminished in your eyes,
Doesn't matter to you when us women cried,
Your big mouths always shouted hatefully,
That I was a dog and you would never date me,
  Just wanted you to know,
I've got a big heart that continues to grow.

So much truth, strong message in very fine and clear verses my friend. Always hold onto that big and kind heart. Teenage years for many were sad and oft a pure hell in school. I always defended the kids that the low-life haters tormented...

Excellent poem for the contest.. Haters gonna hate, sadly when someone is not like how the TV percieves someone should be they get singled out.. even worse now with social media..

Oh, Regina. This is very sad. I knew a very athletic girl who was big boned and strong from working on her dad's farm. As I recall, nobody made fun of her in high school. I don't know why some get picked on and others don't. I hope you feel awesome today and very healthy. I see we were in high school at the same time!!

Hello Regina, such a strong voice with a heart of gold in this powerful poem. Thank you for shining a halo of light on the subjects of bullying and discrimination so enlightenment may bring this ugliness to an end. A passionate poem well expressed! Hugs in friendship always! :)))

I feel the strength and pride--despite the hate of ignorant people in the past--good theme Regina!
