The Scars Remain

I let you make me believe your treatment of me was okay.
I let you take me away,
Even though you only ever wanted to go halfway.
At that time, I didn’t think anything of it.
Looking back,
It seemed to be okay,
Only because I didn’t realize how badly you would
 hurt me.
And when you started slipping away from me,
I tried to hold onto you.
I held on
 Until I could feel
the tighter I held you,
The faster you wanted to leave.
So I stopped holding on
 And I let you be.
But I didn’t let go only for you to come back
To me
You came back
When you left first
 you started it first.
But when you came back,
you didn’t think I was going to move on.
You didn’t think I was able to love someone else.
And to be honest, when you left me, I didn’t think I would ever be able to.
You made me feel like I needed you,
Like I couldn’t live without you.
But when you came back,
Things weren’t quite how you left them.
And when I told you I moved on,
That I was with the love of my life,
You told me it was my fault.
How I should have waited for you.
How even though I found love when I wasn’t looking,
That you believed you would never be able to truly love
. And that made me hurt for you.
But I can’t fix someone, especially someone who doesn’t want to be fixed.
I tried to help you,
 I really did.
You shouldn’t have to drown your feelings,
Not the way you do.
But even after everything you’ve done to me,
I will always be there for you,
Only in hopes that one day you’ll need me.
 In hopes that one day,
You’ll get better.

Raeghan, people reject others for a whole host of reasons. Hard to know sometimes. A very kind person once told me, "The chemistry wasn't there." That was a disappointment, but it was nicely given and didn't bother me. The mean dismissals were more difficult to take. Seems like you understand kindness. I'm glad of that and hope you are well. Smiles. Enjoy PS!!!!

We never really get over scars.. Your poem is poignant and relatable, capturing the painful complexity of love, loss, and personal growth. It speaks to the importance of self-care and the difficulty of balancing compassion with the necessity of letting go. It shows that sometimes, moving on is the only way to heal, and that healing can create space for new, healthier love. Your resilience and compassion are beautifully conveyed, offering a message of hope despite the hurt.
