When in high school I read the beautiful poem, Dawn, written by Paul Laurence Dunbar. I loved the wonderful imagery it evoked. It moved me to start inking my own thoughts and emotions.
During a move to another home I lost the notebook where I had written all of my poems, and for many years after that I held back from writing. However, my desire was rekindled after reading the beautiful work other poets had created, and so I again began to write.
I prefer simplicity of words to express thoughts and emotions in my poems, though I enjoy reading poetry where fancier expressions are skillfully used.
I have written many of my poems in the first person, but it does not mean they are all autobiographical.
