When in high school I read the lovely poem, Dawn, written by Paul Laurence Dunbar. I loved the wonderful imagery it evoked, and it moved me to start inking my own thoughts and emotions.
Years later, during a move to another home, the notebook containing all of my poems was lost. For many years after that I held back from writing. However, my desire to write was rekindled after reading the delightful work other poets had created.
My poems are primarily on love, romance, relationships and marriage, but writing about life in general, even including a bit of humor at times, appeals to me. I prefer simplicity of words to express thoughts and emotions in my poems, though I enjoy reading poetry where fancier expressions are skillfully used.
I have written many of my poems in the first person, but it does not mean they are all autobiographical.
