Biography

Faruk Ahmed Roni is a poet, translator, editor, and cultural organiser whose work has enriched the literary landscape of the United Kingdom for over four decades. Born in Bangladesh and residing in the UK since 1986, he has become a distinguished voice in diaspora literature, building bridges between cultures through both his creative and translational work.

Writing in Bengali and English, Roni’s poetry explores themes of migration, identity, memory, belonging, and cultural heritage. His verse is noted for its lyrical resonance and thoughtful engagement with the complexities of the diasporic experience, earning him recognition as a leading diaspora poet.

Alongside his literary achievements, Roni has played a vital role in fostering literary communities and promoting cross-cultural dialogue. He founded the Shanghati Literary Society in 1989, followed by Shikor Literary Magazine and Eastern Voice in 1998. In 2017, he established Global Poet and Poetry and the Global Shikor Literary Forum, creating international platforms that connect writers, translators, and poets across borders.

Through his poetry, translations, editorial work, and cultural initiatives, Faruk Ahmed Roni has made a lasting contribution to contemporary literature, championing the voices of diaspora communities and expanding the reach of Bengali literary culture on the global stage.
