Keith Peterson Poem
Left my computer on
Grabbed the keys off my desk
Packed up the RV
And we headed out West
We grabbed some snacks
Toys, clothes and some cash
turned out the lights, Fed the pets
Shot out the door, dumped the trash
Kids were excited
You could hear them say
Singing this chant
the entire way
Are we there yet
Are we there yet
What do you mean
There's no internet
Day one
Was So much fun
We walked on the beach
Not far to reach
We Played in the sand
Crashed in the waves
The view was amazing
Saw the Sea Lion Caves
Kids were excited
You could hear them say
Singing this chant
the entire way
Yuck, what's that smell
Yuck, what's that smell
Why are we here
Where the Sea Lions dwell
Days 2 and 3
Were better than most
Spending these days
Out here on the coast
A town called Newport
Is the place where we stayed
All of our neighbors
had one foot in the grave
We played in the water
Saw a lighthouse
Swam in a pool
I walked with my spouse
After two days
It was time to move on
Put it in drive
Just like that, we were gone
Kids were excited
You could hear them say
Singing this chant
the entire way
It's so cold
It's so cold
Where is the sun
Can’t we go, somewhere fun
Days 4 and 5
What a beautiful drive
Drove up the 101
To continue our run
Put her in park
At Thousand trails
Pacific city
Never fails
Mini golf
And an indoor pool
Spotty Wi-Fi
So the kids they were cool
When we got to the beach
We ran up the shore
Having a blast
Can’t wait to have more
Kids were excited
You could hear them say
Singing this chant
The entire way
This trail is so long
This trail is so long
What did I do
What did I do wrong
Day 6 and day 7
The end’s within reach
A little more North
Toward Cannon Beach
A new campground
Our most rustic site
But with just our luck
The place was just right
The RV backed in
Right up to a pasture
Where horses could scamper
And bunnies would scatter
Ran to the beach
With our snacks and my board
I carried it all
To keep family accord
We surfed till we were numb
And a mouthful full of salt
The kids were all freezing
"Dad, this is all your fault."
Now we're all headed home
I want to cry, I want to sob
Our normal routine
Back to school and my job
Finally, an end
To the fighting, complaining
Back to the house
Back to work and the raining
Kids were excited
You could hear them say
Singing this chant
the entire way
We're so glad
We're so glad
That was the best trip that we've ever had
Love you mom
Love you dad

Keith Peterson Poem
April 8th 1972
Means more to me than to most of you
it was 46 years ago on a beautiful morn
In the country of Bratwust Is where I was born
My dad was in the Army and my mom tagged along On the way to the hospital things went all wrong
Their bags were all packed and the all the boxes were checked When a car jumped the median and caused quite a wreck
The car was destroyed, for the Audi they mourned Medics took mom to the hospital and a fat baby boy was born.
The teen years were rough as the young boy grew up Braces and glasses and a terrible haircut
Eventually, he outgrew that mold
And a handsome young man began to unfold
Then from school onto work is where his life lead His dreams of a career began to get fed
Electrons, Receptacles, switches and fuses These were the things, these were his muses
He knew where to go, there was no confusion. Drove downtown and joined the Union
This takes us to today and made my selection. But it's all better now working as a Union electrician

Keith Peterson Poem
Hot Dogs, beer
and long warm nights
Indigestion, too much booze
Lead to front yard fights
Days at the river
Lying on the beach
Sand everywhere
Places I can't reach
Camping or hiking
Walking or biking
All that exercise
Is not to my liking
Sun high in the sky
Early sunrise
I can't get any sleep
These things I despise
Wait, we get Monday off
Is that what you say?
I've changed my mind
I love Memorial Day

Keith Peterson Poem
Gingerbread house
Ice cream cone tree
1 piece of candy for the house
2 pieces for me
The air is full
With the smell of molasses
I need to lie down
As my blood sugar crashes
Cookies, Candy canes
And a Hershey's kiss
Belief in Santa, youthful metabolism
These are things that we really miss
December is great
My favorite you bet
The next 11 months
Trying to get out of debt

Keith Peterson Poem
While watching the Oscars
I sit here and I think
They all look so fancy
In their tuxes and minks
These actors who make millions
Playing someone they're not
While I sit here on the couch
Envious of all that they've got
But when we dig deeper
And look past their fame
You start to realize
That we're all the same
If we could turn the camera around
And they could watch us
It is these celebrities
Who would really be jealous
