Pacific Coast Highway

California oceans live in my heart
driving along the familiar coast

From one city to another
signals change and meander

oh how those moments resonate
inside an ache of longing

The pelicans and seagulls
waves crashing along the sand

crowded piers and restaurants
surfers changing near their cars

Every beach is different
from Redondo to Huntington
Long Beach and San Pedro
and everywhere in between

Each place a blurred memory
haunting within like chimes in the wind

surely a part of me remains
somewhere along that old PCH

Moon Spoon

Deeply, darkly, far and below
mysteriously does grow
from seed to sprout to branching limbs
trees climb upwardly through day and night
exposed to elements both hot and cold
years and ages and who knows how old
until purpose for man they offer their soul

Carefully taken from their place
the artist reveres their sacred state
hands rearrange carefully their shape
thoughts of love and beautiful intent
enter into their molecular grain

As above, so below
what is given to one
is give to all

Inhaling we take a mouthful of peace
exhaling warmly reflected moonlight upon our skin
glowing and knowing we have been blessed
nourished and flourishing here in this place

for the spoon of the moon is special indeed
tailored from wood that once was a tree

meandering branches have found us
from you to me sitting comfortably
encompassing encircling enchanting and free

as a scoop in a spoon of darkness exists
love from the moon to each one of us a gift

Divine Act

A neighbor woman used to snarl and glare
I used to get so upset about her negativity
until one day while I was sitting alone
it hit me like a lightening bolt
to open my heart and send her love in my head
after that moment, everything felt better

In the past I have wasted time
trying to please others and trying so hard
I once let twenty years slip by
before the obvious opened my eyes
the hardest thing about life misspent
is learning how not to resent or complain
but accept and forgive one's self
there's no other to blame

Forgiveness is a divine act
but to forgive one must have been hurt
the most difficult thing to me has to be
knowing I forgive me

Mask Head

Monotone some would say
black and white this is true
but not like simple nothing new
sitting comfortably on the couch
a look of intensity
seriousness
as if almost reaching bliss
paws out front
haunches bent
tail forthright between two back legs
he slouches
upon his head he wears a mask
like a bandit
as he is named

Love Of

Rare but recurring
occasions of elation
extreme anticipation
spontaneous visceral grace
I am without hesitation
nor fear of interpretation
sheer exuberance it appears
causes me to wiggle, to jiggle
to bounce and to slide
I'm a bee, a bird, a butterfly
dancing as if once caged
and now free
this is the feeling
that comes over me

Simple Swings

A photograph of hues and light
a playground of swings to seat your butt
Quietly alone there empty and inviting
hung by chains under the A frame

At first glance one is small
taken back to elementary school
sounds of children yelling and playing
metal chains grind and squeek
higher and higher knees the lever
when at last climbing no more
the body flings itself into the air

From the perspective of today
the swings are empty
with no sounds to hear
but in the mind the act remains
we recall our time carefree

Sacred Self

Close your eyes
And take a moment
Exhale all of your breath
Deeply on your next inhalation
Conversation fades to a blur
It's an autonomous situation
Keep all judgements at bay
In your hands a growing sensation
extending electric connections
both out and inwardly
Right now is all of your tomorrows
Right now is all of your yesterdays
You embody your existence
And are better than you just were
Remember on occasion
as you close your eyes
Exhale all of your breath
Feel your frequency lifting
and flow with the universe

Profound

Aren’t we all

at one time to someone

just as the world is round

unique and forthright

aspirations abound

aiming high with targets set

striving and relentless

eventually a proclamation said

how certainly profound

Head's Up

Sending a boulder size clue with your name on it
specially marked package to the nincompoop
coming down fast from above
it's falling from the sky
gonna squish you like a bug
your silent treatment and attitude
opinionated, authoritative, ridiculous fool
everyone can see that all you are is rude
retract and coil up the power chords
unplug that man before he overloads
maybe puts a glitch in the circuit board
sending out this boulder size clue
be on the look out
this one's for you

Fire

Do not depart from each other in this life
Meet again at the fire
Come together

placing your hand into another's
energy rips through thousands of years
rushing in the blood
as waves rise and fall
breathing soft sands of the shore

smoke rises above
covers below
until it is no more

what remains
you will know to be love
