Parent of a T1 Child - I'M Sorry

I'm sorry that I moaned at you for another wet bed and when I said no to another drink when I should have said yes instead

I'm sorry I told you to wait when you said again you needed the loo and
I'm sorry for telling you off when you wouldn't do what you were supposed to do

I'm sorry that I thought you were faking being tired all the time and I'm sorry that I didn't know to be looking for a sign

Diagnosis day was a shock for both you and for me and I'm sorry I couldn't explain what your future was going to be

The doctors and the nurses took your blood off to be scanned and I'm sorry that I couldn't stay and be there to hold your hand

You were such a hero, so brave and above your years and I'm sorry that you had to see me unable to hold back the tears

All the needles, all the injections, finger pricking and nightly blood test, I'm sorry that I never ever seem to let you sleep or get some rest

Weighing out and counting carbs in all the food you eat, I'm sorry there isn't a day goes by that I can let you cheat

I love when your out playing, discovering and having space to grow, I'm sorry that I have to stop you to treat when you are low

It's been tough but there's been plenty of smiles along the way but I'm not sorry about how proud I am of you at the end of each and every day

There are many times when I don't think I could have felt sorrier but Son your my rock, my strength, you are my Type 1 Warrior.
