The Abyss

It’s like standing at the edge of an abyss.

Watching and being watched,

Gravity pulling you and you nearly let go of the fear and simply end it.

Take that final step,

Leave all that you knew behind.

Look before you leap they say,

Everything is ‘they say’

Nothing is your own,

It is all how it is;

Life and death and an endless cycle that you are the smallest part of

An insignificant creature, gazing upon all you can see,

Seeing so little of what is truly there.

You lift your foot, shift your weight

Ready to fall-

You pause, waiting.

Is this truly what should happen?

Or is there going to be some fairytale ending for you,

In spite all your troubles and worries-

Or perhaps because of them.

There is always that hope,

That spark that nothing can douse,

That small thing called hope

What happens when,

As you put both feet on the ground again,

The light is only a tiny spark-

Something beautiful but unreachable,

A wilo-the-wisp if there ever was one,

I have seen countless others fall, just like you

For I am the abyss

And if you gaze into me

I gaze back into you.

When I Die

When I die-
Let the earth split in two,
Let the animals scream as one,
Let the birds cease their songs,
So that my passing may be marked.

When I die-
Let the sky rend itself,
Let the thunder shout in grief,
Let the clouds shed their tears,
So that my passing may be mourned.

When I die-
Let a wail go up among the people,
Let the music of life falter,
Let pain stab the hearts of all,
So that my passing may be felt.

When I die-
Let my work live on,
Let my legacy be lived,
Let my heirlooms be passed down,
So that my life may be worth something.

Solace

I find solace in the blade,

Solace no human touch can provide.

Polished to gleaming, cold and deadly.

Sharpened to a razor, no longer simply a blade,

But a vessel for my darkness,

My desires.

I find solace in the cloak,

Solace no human touch can provide.

Worn to soft, dark and threadbare.

Fit to me, no longer simply a cloak,

But the costume for myself,

My disguise.

I find solace in the chains,

Solace no human touch can provide.

Trap to weapon, frozen and choking.

Shining in the night, no longer simply chains,

But the trap for attackers,

My weapon.

I find solace in the darkness,

Solace no human touch can provide.

Gentle to me, dark and welcoming,

Hiding me, no longer simply darkness,

But the paths I walk,

My journeys.

My path, hidden from others.

The dark one, stalking through the night.

For I am the monster in your head,

The demon’s friend.

I walk the path of shadow,

So that you will not have to.

Luck and Wishes

I've rubbed all the lanturns,
I've counted on all the stars,
My wish will never some true.

I've picked four leaf clovers,
I've snagged all the pennies,
My luck seems never to change.

My wishes will not come true,
My luck now will never change,
Unless I do it myself.
