Sweet Delights

Old Granny Small was a lovely old lady,
She smiled through her wrinkles and never gave into time,
We lived right next do to her,
And I must say it was quite a delight,
She had ancient recipes from before I was born,
The smell of her baking was a gift to the air!
I always loved it when she would invite us to tea,
Sharing her sugary treats with all of the village,
Her buttery scones at one corner sat next to vanilla cookies,
In the centre a chocolate cake with yummy strawberries at the top,
Smiling ginger bread men dressed in red and green button for the affair,
Tempting lemon pie and heavenly strudel,
Cream filled donuts with an inviting glow,
Cherry topped delicious muffins and shining orange jam,
All this with a warm cup of tea,
I had died and rose in heaven,
My sweet tooth could never forget this affair!

Venus' Wish List

I want the sun
Served on a dish of silver and gold
Carved by the skilled hands of Hephaestus.

Pick up Mount Olympus
Place it down at my feet
Adore me in all heavenly glory.

Take all the sea salts to powder my hair
Make the lilies not die at night
Take the perfume of the roses and make it mine.

Scoop all the stars from the night sky
Embroider them on a dress of gentle silk
Give it to me with slippers made of glass.

Make all creation sing to me
birds, sea, creatures and legendary beings
Give all of this to me in exchange for my love.

An Exquisite Grace

The grace that shone upon you
When you first smiled on the earth,
Is the same grace that led you back
To where your heart has been called to.

A dove that has settled on you,
Made its nest within you,
Sunk its voice in to you,
The butterflies in your hair
Laugh as the wind comes
Brushing its way past you,
The sunlight that bathed
Your skin each day
Still favors you today
To glow along with its light.

The stars pushed to you a gift,
A present fashioned by God,
Smiling as you took your instrument
And made merry with it to the world.

The universe that smiled on you yesterday, smiles on you today,
Make music then and gift your stage, this earth with a smile.

                                                                                             ~ For Letitia

The Mystery About the Mystery

oh the mystery about the mystery
this life this world and endless universe
invisible winds and blind suns
not to forget the rainbow painted people

how the lambs bleat and understand each other
that I do not worry whether the sun rises
oh the moon has many dresses to choose from
stars fall down to earth but nobody has found any

how we rise from the dead sleep
that we love as if it is our last act on earth
people are afraid of the dark and love the light
how life would be if it were the other way around

the mystery about the mystery
will remain a mystery for me
unanswered questions about mother nature
unfinished tales of this fabulous world

Beauty In Disguise

This is the story of a woman unknown.

On top of green hill that rose above a village
There was a tiny white cottage that sat for all to see
The clouds brushed on its roof
And green vines ran up and down the walls
This cottage was the house of a woman named Unknown
She rose early in the morning and wore a black cloak
Which covered her face and body
Many did not wish to speak to her
She would visit the riverside and they would all run away
When she sat by the large white rock nobody would
Greet her though she softly said, "Hello"
Mothers told their children never to speak to her
For they said she was a which
Then one day a dragon came down from the sky
He swallowed the sun and said
That it would be returned to them when
The fairest maiden was offered to him as his bride
One by one the beauties of the village
Presented themselves to the dragon
None of them could fill the glass of his desire
Then one day, Unknown visited the dragon
She pulled off her cloak and time froze;
Never had he or the village seen,
A maiden with such red lips
Hair golden like sweet honey
A frame so gentle and petite
Skin whiter than white and softer than air
The dragon unable to contain such beauty
Spit out the sun and turned into dust
While Unknown disappeared into time
And was greatly missed by the village that never knew her.

A Deep and Troubling Truth

Hands
Stretched out like branches
Reaching for the kiss of sun
An army of hands, brown hands
Stretched out at me
Shrivelled weak hands
Looking for their daily bread.

Hands
With nobody to hold
No star close for them to touch
To shake off the dust and shimmer
Slowly move back to folded arms
Hands that know not how to give
Stretch out to touch the troubled
Hands that serve only his purpose.

Hands
Snatching from the pot
Blind hands grab the rich jasper
To exchange it for some nourishment
Hands that know only to grab from another
Hands that serve only his purpose
Looking for their daily bread.

Hold Me In the Light

Hold me in the light,
Right where you are.

Lead me down the path
That leads to your throne.

Touch me with your grace,
That I may know your mercy.

Write me in the book
So I may live forever.

~
Feed me with your word,
That I may never go hungry.

Pour into my cup,
That I never grow thirsty.

Plant me by the river,
That my branches may flower.

Mould me oh, my maker,
So I may become glorious.

What If

They told her: All she
Could accomplish
She can only gain
On her back.

What if she had
Been told that
She was more
Than just the glow
Of her skin or
The flowers growing
In her hair?
What if she was
Told that she
Could actually
Use her mind?
That her mind
Is a city of Emerald
That had to
Be explored
What if her
Back was still
Too small?
A thin strip of wood
That broke into
A million pieces when it
Touched the floor.

Ode To a Lemon

Zesty droplets on my tongue
Setting a blaze of many flavours
Lively explosions on in my mouth

Barcelona

Dear Barcelona

Bride of Spain
Mourn not precious jewel
For we are praying for you
We are praying for your children
That they may find favour in heaven.

Sea feliz!
To spite the devil's tricks
And make farse of his knavery
That you may find peace with the enemy
So their souls can be made pure and right
Mysterious Barcelona
Try not to make sense of this
For only the creator knows why,
Rise like the Spanish rose in the face of rain and sun
Remain in your unmoved dazzle.
